This has been a terribly deceiving game.

Week 1 Headlines Match of the Week: Konjarnik HighTowers 17, Paris Rioters 10 It wasn't the most exciting nor most well-played game, but it was the closest and could have gone either way. In the end, the team with fewer miscues was able to pull this one out. Ulero's stripped down team actually gave a valiant effort, but the apparent on-field tryouts for a kicker stopped the HighTowers from getting any separation. The first quarter set the tone for the rest of the game to follow. After stopping KHT on the opening drive, the Paris Rioters promptly fumbled the ball away on their first offensive snap of the season. But with the HighTowers in the redzone, Browka's defense came up with a big INT but couldn't get anything going. This was followed by the first missed FG attempt by KHT resulting in a short field for the Rioters who marched all the way down to the 6 yard line. But on a 4th and 1, Browka took the points instead of going for the TD. In the 2nd QTR, another missed KHT FG led to another Rioters' TD and a 10-0 halftime lead (and another missed FG in the final seconds kept it that way). Ulero's offense righted its course in the second half scoring on three consecutive possessions: a 78-yard TD drive, a 62-yard FG drive that tied the game, and a 70-yard TD drive to start the 4th QTR and take the lead). With a little over 4 min left in the game, the Rioters were threatening, with a 2nd and 2 to go on the HighTower 39 yard line but couldn't get any closer. Teams of the Week: Växjö Gladiators AFC and La Spezia Sprugoleans Both of the teams missed out on the playoffs last season, but both won critical divisional games that could go a long way to changing their fortunes this season. The Gladiators seem to have Marife-Lacion's number, notching his third consecutive victory, a 30-9 beat down. Similarly, alexmi seems to have the right formula for the Alpin Ducks, who lost for the 7th straight time in this 24-6 game. What I learned from the Week With a lot of bots and rebuilding/folding teams, this is as weak as SD 1 has been in a long time. In the AC, the Michigan State Spartans have a pretty smooth path to the first seed. With the Rainbow Warriors in rebuild mode and the HighTowers in bot-to-be mode, the Gladiators might be the biggest threat to MSU. The Chicago Cubs now look like the favorites to win the AC West, and GDansk Redskins picked up a big win over the Bautzen Greywolves while Schrodingers Cats struggled with SD 1 rookie, Old England Redcoats (don't the final score mislead you, this was a good game for 3+ quarters). In the NC, it looks like the Philadelphia Phoenix have entered a rebuild either by design or accident (and based on his "oops" comment after rollover, I'd say accidental, which makes one wonder if he will finally live up to his promise of quitting). La Spezia's team has a high power rating, so this is probably the best challenger to the seemingly inevitable Munich Runners-Baltimore Ravens conference championship. The loser of the two-team NC South (Devon Warriors and Idrosburghi Verona) figures to be in the wild card hunt. The NC West is bad (no offense). Finally, congratulations to the Croxley Crocs for winning their first SD 1 game (ok, it was against a bot, but it still counts as a win). |

This is one scary animal farm here. We have ducks in drugs. We have wolves on steroids. We have deadly Ravens. We have fearless cats. We have have crocs now.

Your TC and moral was just awful before the game and your rating was already down to 61. Anything else than a large win would have been a counter performance. This is actually a sad win.  |
