You earn your right to pick early on the next draft, if you tank in your league 1 season...

Fixed it for you Pete

Not true anymore, due to the announced changes.

Pete could make it so we could look at any draft board. That way if you thought you might be getting promoted you could plan for the draft board of the league above.

I agree it gets tricky, but I kind of like the idea. Its a natural defense against tanking as well. You no longer get a bonus for getting demoted.

I still like the idea of drafting on the new board best, but another option could be simply to push demotees down towards the end of their normal board. Maybe have the two promoting teams at the bottom still, but place any demoting teams just above them. That way this powerful team moving down to a lower level doesn't get an even greater advantage over their new league.

On the other hand I think that a high draft pick is fair reward for struggling through a season in Elite before getting dropped back to 1.1!!

The biggest issue is those who drop them selves down to 2.x just so they can get a high draft pick and draft against noobs and bots.

Yeah I was just pointing out that this rule would not be fair everywhere the same as it would be unfair on those who are relegated from 1.1 simply because they are relegated for not being good enough. In Thunder we have a problem in that due to the not flush every season we have teams being promoted to soon from 2.2 who in many cases struggle and get relegated the first season, this would not be fair on them.

I don't see it being unfair at all. A team demoting is generally going to be much better than their new competition. Why increase the delta by giving them a high draft pick?

If instead teams who stay up get the high draft picks it creates more drama and intensity in the relegation race at the end of the season. Keep your team above the cut line and get rewarded, rather than get rewarded for losing the last few games.

This would greatly limit the main reward for tanking, but it would be hard top make thé draft changes.

I don't like the fact that for a few cheaters (tanking teams), we would have to punish ALL relegating teams.

I just don't see it as punishment. Rather the lack for a reward for doing poorly. Relegating teams are already rewarded with weaker competition. Giving them good draft picks on top of that just seems like they are getting extra rewards for failing.

I guess we aren't going anywhere since there is fact X that I am seeing as normal and you are seeing as reward, and fact Y I am seeing as punishment and you see it as normal.

Or maybe it's just because promotion/relegation systems aren't coupled with draft system in any organization IRL as far as I know, so it's not easy to do so on an online game/simulation.

the only solution I have here : Believe in Yoda !

It really makes no difference whatsover.

The way it is, a demoting team has an early pick in the higher league the season they go down an a high pick in the lower league the season they get back up.

With the change, they would get a late pick in the lower league the season the go down and an early pick in the higher league the season the get back up.

The same set of picks, just a different order.
