Here's another safety-related question, while we're here.

How much do teams (particularly in League 1 and Elite) run safety blitzes? I'm not asking for percentages or play calls, just general ideas, because I have pretty much given up on them - too many big plays given up if the blitz is picked up and there's no-one left to tackle the offensive player marauding through the wide open spaces left behind.

I also picked up a 41 STR/50 SPD (both red capped) LB in the 2nd round today that I'm considering moving to safety because he has the Fearsome trait and I'm pretty well set at LB. Is it worth keeping him at LB, moving him to S, or just moving him to CB (INT 39.5)?

You may want to move one of your top-notch LBs to CB, as two great starting CBs are (in my opinion!) the most valuable asset a defense can have.

Thanks for all the replies, just what I expected!

Will 41 STR cut it at LB (OLB obviously)? I don't have a LB with less than 43 STR right now, though I do have three with 50 SPD.

Maybe. It depends on the other skills they have. "Weak" LBs can overcome their deficiency if they're developed in other areas. I believe that your player's strength and speed should equal 85 at a minimum.

Fearsome trait is pretty tough to use (except on DL guys). Even at LB, only one guy is blitzing. Unless you are using sets with only 1 LB, its not going to trigger much. If you only have 1 LB, its going to be an MLB not an OLB. I'd probably push him back to CB myself and forget about the trait.

Essentially my question is, what is the difference? I know FS is your last man, but what else? Are there any particular skills beyond the obvious ie FS needs more intelligence etc?

As far as real life goes, your FS is typically a player who is fast enough to not be beat deep and quick enough to be able to move around to cover as much ground as possible, whereas you SS should be able to rush the passer and stop the run since nowadays a lot of SS's line up in the box and basically function as a faster LB with better coverage

I build them like LBs, but have lower intelligence threshold for SF guys.

Reviving this thread because I have another safety question.

I play Ryan Simmons as my FS. He's 26-yo with these stats:-

37.5 STR
47.1 SPD
26.1 AGI

35.8 INT
33.6 TW
4*TALENT
4*EXP

TKL & VIS 33.5, POS 26.1

Long Reach trait

He has precisely ZERO tackles this season, in 326 plays. I figure he's patrolling center field and knocking down stray passes while my SS and LBs pile up tackles, but...the rest of my safeties at least manage a handful of tackles. Is this guy just too weak/slow to make a real impact (assuming safeties have any impact)? Or is he having one and I can't see it?

I'm undefeated this season (until Buddy's Bears pound me in the Cup tonight) so obviously this isn't a huge worry, but I am curious. He starts for his skills and EXP, not his physicals, but I do have more talented but less experienced guys behind him.

In my experience FS only have the opportunity to make tackles on passing plays after another player has missed as a last line of defense (ie: if the tackle is missed, it's a TD for the other team). Knowing this it's not surprising that they don't get many opportunities to make tackles.

SS on the other hand regularly make tackles on running plays.

On my team this season my SS made 39 tackles in 11 Elite League games while my FS made 5 for example.

Agreed, No FS tackle attempts is a good issue to have
