Guys the reality is the Cleveland browns LOVE Cody Kessler. They even modeled their Oline for him in the same way the Saints have had succes with Brees: shorter QB, more focus on the guards and centers. The Osweiler deal was all about the pick they haven't even talk with him. His career is over. Leaks indicate that Kessler has been told he is gonna compete for the job with a rookie, and why shouldn't he. In 8 games he has 65% completion, 6TD to 2INT and a rating of 92.3
When was the last time we ever saw stats like that from a Browns QB ? The best Josh McCown was in the same range, but in his 13th season in NFL!!!! We're talking about a kid that was sacked 21 times in his first 9 starts. If they can keep him and Coleman healthy and give them some help this offense could start looking good.

There is no elite quarterback prospect in his draft, and should the Kessler experiment fail they'll probably secure the Sam Darnell pick in 2 years. Building their Oline up was the best thing to do in the FA even if they slightly overpaid because their is not one instant starter on OL in the draft and very few that could make an impact by the end of the upcoming season. They can now focus on the great things that draft has to offer and get Myles Garrett to be the Joey Bosa type of player their pass rush so desperately needs. Giving up heaps of picks for Garropolo does not make sense because you can expect that if Bill lets him go he knows he will not enjoy the same success with you.

They really have all the cards in hands now to build their future. If they were to keep losing in the next two years they will have the best QB prospect since Andrew Luck if he keeps being that good in Sam Darnell. Otherwise that means they will be happy with Kessler and his competition. In this draft I don't see them picking a QB high. Maybe Watson if he falls to the 12th overall with the perspective to groom him in a NFL QB over the next season and start him in 2018. The intangibles with him are through the roof and it would be hard to pass on him there. Otherwise they can load up in defense, get good value at the RB and WR position.

As a Steelers fan I don't really want to see them in a position to dominate the AFC North but I can see them being a healthy competition in a couple of years. The Bengals are gonna become the perennial loser in the division because of their terrible front office at the moment. They let their OL walk away a year they're not gonna be able to replace anyone, they can't keep their players clean and are drawn to bad boys. Drafting Mixon in the first round would be the cherry on top of the cake. As talented as he is he won't fix their OL and I don't think they need the publicity stunt.

If Darnold plays up to expectations this season I believe that will forgo his junior and senior seasons. He's a redshirt sophomore and will be draft eligible since he'd be 3 years removed from his high school graduation. Although I believe he would benefit greatly from the additional game action, the other QBs eligible in the 2018 draft (Rosen, Mayfield, Browning, Hill, Rypien, Falk, Rudolph, Mangum, Barrett) are as much a mixed bag as this season's group.

That would mean that they would only have to suck one more season to get him

Good post JbHeng. As a european NFL fan that is far removed from people who know what their talking about it's really informative to read posts like this one.

I would like to add that if the Browns make a move for Jimmy G I would eat my hat so to speak. It goes against everything they are doing in Cleveland. The whole story is totally media fabricated as no one in Cleveland has even given a inkling that they are interested in Garappolo.

Cheers bro I really appreciate. The mainstream media is hellbent on making crazy speculations but how can you assume that the people that just preyed on the terrible osweiler deal are ready to make a worst mistake for Garoppolo (new deal that's gonna be extremely expansive, plus prohibitive pick cost in the draft). I do believe though that the patriots expect to trade him to get the Brandin Cooks pick back and can't afford a new Garoppolo deal. Let's find out who the poor sucker will be

So fortunately the Brows didn't go for Garappolo. But then the question arises: who the hell will be the starter?

Any guestimates?

EDIT: I got a sneaky feeling it will be Osweiler after all although I see ourlads.com has Kessler as first QB on the DC and Osweiler third after Hogan.

I would probably go with Kessler, since he's been in the Browns system longer than Oswieler.

As I said the moment they made the trade with Houston; I think Kessler is the starter and Osweiler will either challenge for it or start.

It made sense that they just used their cap to get the pick, but if they didn't release him then, it's because they think he can contend as a starter.

What I like about the Browns is it looks like they are going to keep taking punts on QB's until they hit the jackpot.

I would love them to hit one before Joe Thomas declines, 10 seasons, 10 Pro Bowls, 7 All Pros he has been a real stud. He's only 32 but ten years in the trenches is a long time on the body and he revealed this year he's suffering with early stage memory loss although his attitude remains remarkable, I hope it doesn't have serious long term implications for him and his family.

Either way in whatever years he remains playing he deserves a shot at a ring and I hope the stumble across a QB to deliver it soon.

Kessler starts the season, Kizer finishes it if things are going badly - why not find out what you've got with him, IMO.

The mandatory minicamp apparently Kessler & Kizer were sharing first team snaps, Osweiller worked with the second team, and Hogan worked almost exclusively with 3rd team / likely to be cut folks.

Reporters sounded the most positive about Brock, but where they Brownies shopped him around and found no takers, I assume he's a clipboard holder moving forward.
