Well, its' Sunday here, and so I need to get out this diatribe about we Americans describe as Soccer, otherwise known as the Worlds # 1 sporting function.
I've tried, oh have I tried to like this game. The only time I get mildly excited about it World Cup. You know, World Cup, where they play the tournaments in Brazil, Russia and Quitter, I mean Qatar. Corruption is a worldwide problem, I guess. Soccer in the burning desert, that is a new one. Well, I would make one suggestion to the rules makers, and this also applies to the game of hockey...make the nets 20 percent bigger. A few more goals per game would help the casual fan like me pay more attention. As far as the US side, the Men's team is a joke, and always will be. The funny part is when they bring in foreign coaches to manage the team, like THAT is going to help ! Currently, there is a lot of youth programs in the US, and many think
that will translate into better results at the top level. Fat chance. Top elite athletes play baseball, basketball and American football. Meanwhile the US women's team is dominant in Soccer. We have something called Title IX, which funds women's college teams. Compared to the World, Women's soccer here gets huge funding $$$

The game is nice, but I really dislike the fan culture around, at least here in my area...

Also, don't forget the best coaches in America choose those sports as well. With more tactical minds choosing baseball, basketball, and American football, the development at the youth and prep levels can't compare to the instruction and development in other countries.

It all depends on which culture you have grown up in.

Association Football (Soccer to the yanks) is played in every country in the world, though it is evidently most popular in Europe, South America, Africa and Asia. (Notice the big blank area above Central America and the 49th parallel). It does not succeed in that area because there are no time outs for sponsors or advertising commercials to be done, like in all their other sports, hence the lack of funding in the past.

Technical and tactical sports take many forms and soccer does have plenty of both, though tactics that are planned in soccer are usually blown out of the water as the match progresses and the players have to think on their feet as they cannot rely on play being stopped for the coach/manager to pass on instructions every 30 seconds or so like in some certain sports.

I have no wish to put down an Americans opinion of their "National" sports, but they should show some diplomacy and consider other parts of the world may enjoy watching american sports, but they also have a strong affiliation with the sports played in their parts of the world that they grew up with and do not like those sports to be put down by anyone.

I know the NFL was proud of the world wide viewing figures of this years Super Bowl, but that figure is still only a tenth of those that watch soccer every week all over the world and for 52 weeks of the year not just 22 weeks of the year.

So just be happy guys that we appreciate your sport even though it somehow takes 3 hours to play a one hour game.

I'm no fan of RL American football. My biggest problem with it is with the amount of concussions. I had a bad concussion about 20 years ago due to an accident, and still feel the lingering effects of it. The a great thing about RZA, no concussions
The other thing is the NFL is petty and greedy, even though they have all made more money off of the game than in their wildest dreams
A case in point is our "beloved" Detroit Lions. The recently deceased owner, William Clay Ford, was born into one of the richest families in the US back in the 1920's.
He gained control of the Lions the same Friday that JFK was assassinated. Things went downhill from there. Stat wise, the Lions are the worst drafters of players in the history of the League. Stat wise, they have the worst QB in NFL history in Joey Harrington.
They have won 1 playoff game in 55 years. They are the only non expansion team never to have made the Superbowl. And yet, though all of this, the Ford's have made well over a billion dollars in profits and team net worth. If you are looking for an example of rich people getting richer, and due to no part of their own making, this example would be exhibit A. I wish we had a pro soccer team in Detroit

Yes, any Englishman will tell you that is ridiculous, real sports take 5 days to complete and end in a draw

A person from the South of England would, but a Yorkshireman would usually say that we win in 3 days.
