Except that if you let an idiot drive however he wants he might end up killing a family of 5 non-idiots simply because they were at the wrong place at the wrong time.

I think it's a good idea in general but like often is the case the devil is in the details.
So in order to implement this change without having unintended negative consequences we would have to take into consideration the following cases: - a new team who only has 1 good WR and plays him on every down all season long would be penalized because this WR would end up with very good stats. Same can be true if a team tries to give EXP to one player making him end up with ridiculously high season stats not because he is better than other players but because he played more. - a tanking team could bench its best players in order to get a discount on their salaries. I do not want to give more incentives to tank. - the number of bot games can also have a huge impact. For example, my real starting QB only plays the big games for me so he has 30 TD and 13 INT this season... On the other hand my young 23 year old QB who's nowhere nearly as good but needs experience (so he plays the easiest games) has 70 TD and only 2 INT. Should my younger QB get a huge bonus because he scores TDs against BOTS while my starting QB would not get a bonus even though his stats are pretty good considering that he faces Elite competition only? These are just a few examples of potential problems with this suggestion in my opinion but if someone has ideas on how to limit the impact of the above cases I'd be very interested to hear them. |
