Group created with Adventurers in 4th place and the other 3 UK teams moved up to fill in the Celtics departure.

The cup is started, now it's time for some talking before the kick-offs.

And with the groups set, the teams preparing for the new year clash of Italy's finest against the UK front runners it is time to introduce Team UK:

Adventurers

This team has set up a strong grip on the Admirals 1.1 scene. A side most teams do not relish facing in their schedule and a side I have high expectations for. Had a difficult tournament in the UK cup with a difficult opener hosting the Sharks, a narrow loss to the Doleys leading to their exit and a two score defeat to the Irish contingent in their final game. Running 5-3 so far in the regular season they seem to be bringing some form back to the table and with a good looking side on paper they should feel a good run in this cup.

A fine addition to Team UK and one that will pose a threat to all other competitors. But can they change their fortunes from their UK cup outing? Can they show the Lakers they are the better Admiral? Can they enjoy this Adventure, or will it be more of a trial than they thought?

Firenze Foxes

They had a very mixed performance in the UK cup. They had a disappointing loss to Bonnyrigg, followed by a playoff surprise over the Sharks before narrowly falling to the Doleys in the semi finals, only to beat them in the Supercup less than a week later. They will be out to prove that they are indeed a force to be reckoned with and try to eliminate any up and down performances. But also with the added sweetener of a potential revenge match up against the Doleys if the results go the way they want. On paper another strong side from the British Isles and they should feel confident of a playoff berth.

But a few questions are there. Can they hunt their prey consistently? Do Foxes like pizza? Do Foxes like the taste of Mermaids, or are the sea critters more siren than supper?

San Diego Blitzkrieg

Our non-British entrant and billed by myself as Uncle Sam's favourites we have the renowned Blitzkrieg. A trophy cabinet packed more than AC Milan's, Linemen beefier than Gino D'Acampo's bolognese and a score tally rising faster than Baggio's. Always confident coming into a tournament and so they should be. They are strong all over the park on both sides of the ball. They rotate their side throughout games with very little impact on their team's performance. Squad deeper than the Atlantic they will look to re-affirm their reputation within RZA.

But they were beaten twice in the UK...are they truly so immovable? Will they be like -G.O.A.T- or more like Broady after the Christmas festivities? Does it snow in San Diego???

Erdington Doleys

My team. The jobless wonders show up again in another friendly cup and as always I am beaming with confidence. Feeling a tad fortunate with my UK cup run only to have it all thrown back at me with great force in the final, losing my second Battle of Birmingham in that competition was about as enjoyable as the "fish" and chips from the Charlie Hall on a Saturday afternoon. A very strange side to most, often entering as underdogs yet fighting like the mighty Cerberus on the day. A young and developing side looking to not only win games but dodge a hard day's work in favour of Jeremy Kyle and dole day poundland outings.

Can the jobless wonders add a title to their CV, or will they fail at interview stage? Are there enough beer mats in the Cross Keys for my playbooks to be written on, or will I need to use the price list? Will I ever stop asking all these questions?

That is Team UK ready and raring to go. Bring on the continental foes and may the best Brummie, I mean Brit win!! Good Luck to all!!

Are the blitz the token?

I presume the new rules insist on a token colonial

I hoped some Italian coach (other than me of course) would describe the four teams, but Christmas time turned off the will of participating.
I am taking on my shoulder the duty, but before that a little resume' of the first gameday.

Two Italian and two UK victories to mark a line of perfect equilibrium.
Foxes beating Mermaids is the most significant game IMHO since it was the game between two Elite-ranked teams. Lakers beating Adventurers was a classic match we often play in friendly cups and which is always thrilling until the end.

In the other group, great performance of the Rhinos that did their best until the end against the Blitzkrieg and of the Centurions that scored a resounding victory against Doleys.

Next turn the 4 fratricidal matches will take places and we will discover if any team is capable of gaining early tickets for the KO rounds.

Let's move to team description (obviously from my perspective ... feel free to integrate them as you wish)

Montesacro Mermaids
They are playing under Switzerland flag for a strange mistake, since Montesacro is a district of the city of Roma. Therefore we think about them as Italian fellows despite of the color of the cross.
Mermaids are one of the Elite-value teams and they were able to play different seasons among the greatest. The coach is a good strategist and a gentleman.
Unfortunately he prefers football and he doesn't like Fox hunting

Bracciano Lakers
Not much to say about ourselves. We are stubborn and brave people that like rowing, sailing and fishing. In the free-time we play football, but we are more enthusiasts than professionals. Our team is growing slowly, but I think we can deserve something more than we already achieved. For now we are proud of some satisfaction that we can enjoy from time to time.
We have in place a solid, friendly rivalry with some UK teams: Thepitchhitchin, Doleys and Adventurers are our Albion-leagues preferred opponents.

Roma Centurions
We started together with Tullo Ostilio's team and we are playing one against tbe other in every occasion we can. We are friends in real-life and still keeping in touch through the game. I cannot be honest about them, since they are my second-best favourite team of the game. Centurions are a solid, well equipped team that have to find some balance since their defence is a best-class one, but their offense is a little bit lighter than the defence and it hurts their winning probabilities IMHO.
They showed in the first match that they have good cards to be competitive in this challenge. Add to this that in the previous edition of Coppa Italia they entered in the final beating the Blitzkrieg, so take a close look over them because they can overcome anyone.

Rhinos Milano
From the northern part of Italy they are rivals in Admirals' league. We crossed our paths in several editions and they are a valiant opponent with good capabilities and a strong team. I respect them very much. They had troubles (as anyone) in the match against Blitzkrieg, but they came out fighting bravely. They have plenty of opportunities to fight their way back to the top. I still expect them to enter semifinals.

I didn't see this happen...
I wasn't in touch with Tullo Ostilio during Xmas vacations. Now I've phoned him and he tells me he has family troubles. Real life first, always.

I wished him luck and possibly a strong comeback in the near future.

I think it will spoil some fun out of the competition...

A complete UK final tells everybody the dominance of the British teams above Italian ones.

Good luck to Blitzkrieg and Adventurers for the final game.

I was lucky - if they hadn't gone bot it could have been a different outcome
