BobBoy Magpies (8-0) at Green Mark Packers (8-0)

The Magpies enter GM Lambeau to face the Packers for the 1st time since season 27 in the Champs of Champs cup. It's been 5 seasons since that 1 point Packers victory, so everyone is terribly excited to see what this match has to offer.

Offense

The Magpies come into the contest with the 8th ranked pass and rush offense. They are led by QB Anthony Motley who has thrown for the 10th most yards and their bruising FB Ron Salmon the top rusher in Admirals 1.1.

The Packers enter the day with the 17th best pass offense. Although they don't appear to be more than a middling outfit passing, their QB Theodoros Schroder has thrown for the 7th most yards thus far this season. Many of those yards were gathered by their dangerous WR Don Garber, the 3rd ranked pass catcher in the league. This is an efficient group picking up yards and scores through the air. Additionally, their collective of rushers, led by Nicholas Camp, is ranked 5th in the league.

Defense

Ranked 7th in pass defense, the Magpies provide a difficult group to take advantage of. Their relentless pass rush provided by LBs Elliot Fair, 6th in sacks and Rolf Hughes, 10th in sacks can be devastating to opposing offenses. These two are not just phenomenal at getting after the QB, they aid a defensive front that is ranked 3rd against the run and 10th in total tackles for loss.

The Packers don't provide a pass defense as stout, yet the Magpies would be wise to avoid Marcus Gomez, the 3rd leading interceptor in Admirals 1.1. I'd hate to imagine where this 21st ranked pass d would be without him. Fortunately, the Packers employ the top-ranked rush defense in the league, led by LB Kevin Darsha, the 3rd leading sack artist in Admirals 1.1.

Special Teams

In this match-up, a special note must be made about Luciano Schulz, the 6th ranked kicker for the Packers. He's only missed 1 FG in league play this season. He's as close to automatic as you will find in this matchup as the Magpies kicker, Ollie Monahan has only connected on 75% of his FG this season.

In the return game, the guys to keep your eyes on are Rafael Feuerstein and Leopoldo Reyes for the Packers and Rolf Colson for the Magpies.

Analysis

I believe that the Magpies will unleash their pass rush vs the vulnerable offensive line of the Packers (34 sacks surrendered this season). This will require that the Packers be efficient and effective when they throw and that they control the pace of the contest with their rushing offense.

Prediction

Magpies win

WOW. The Magpies were able to get to the QB as I anticipated, but they weren't able to limit the offensive productivity of the Packers at all. The Packers offensive line gave up 7 sacks in pass protection but destroyed the Magpies defensive front in the running game. They accounted for 82 total pancake blocks and that lead to 237 yards rushing! The Magpies were made 1 dimensional by the Packers effectively stopping their running game. When the Magpies turned to the air, they didn't fare much better, experiencing more than a dozen "dropped" passes. Tough game for the Magpies. Congratulations Packers. Good luck to both of you on the rest of your seasons.
