I know I post often in Suggestions, but here I am again, with yet another suggestion. I would like to see a stricter player cap. In the NFL, you are only allowed to have 53 players on your roster (only 46 are allowed to dress for each game, but that's not important). In this game, you are allowed to have 70 players on your roster, but are only allowed 55 on your depth chart. Would managers be willing to even make a small adjustment in the total amount of players on your roster? Maybe down to 60 or 63?

If this goes somewhere, maybe an injured reserve could be in store?

I would love to hear some input on this.

BTW, all these suggestions would make the playbook that much more important, and player skill a little less.

Reducing roster size would force to many other aspects of the game to change or reflect the new system. Drafted and Youth Academy quality, the amount of players available, the transfer market as it is now. Would this actually improve the game for all the work.

For me this sim is largely how American Football would work under EUROPEAN soccer rules.

You buy and sell players, you bring through youth. The draft is an added bonus but not part of my strategy as such.

Fair enough. I would be okay with a practice squad separate from the YA.

In effect you have a practice squad already if you have 70 players as you can only have 55 on your depth chart so you could use those other players for friendlies.

I'd have no problem with a reduction in the amount of players on the depth chart. I am sometimes trying to find players to add for the last 1 or 2 anyway.

I agree that the 70 squad cap is like having a practice squad. we dont have the option to have a player trying out without contract that we can release with no penalty, so to reduce the squad cap might be unfair in some cases. Draft players are automatically given a contract until the end of that season, whereas that might not be true to NFL (not asking for this to be changed, just an observation).

It's not the same, because if haven't a support account to have only one depth chart. If you have a prctive squad separatly on main squad you a dedicated depth chart and can use it for friendlies match

Not only that but even with a supporter account you have to set the team for each game. If you do not the default kicks in.

Now what I would like to do is to be able to set a default team for friendlies and, if possible, bot games (in addition to my default for competitive games).

The reason for this is that players gain full experience for competitive games and less for friendlies. However, you can only have 55 players gaining experience at a time. So it would be nice if your regular squad gained the competitive experience and the remaining 15 (of your 70) going on present figures gained the exp from friendlies.

To try and balance up the friendly squad (i.e. the other 40 players) you could then draw from your senior or YA players. So let's say that the practice squad gains X exp from friendlies. The players designated as practice squad would gain 100%X, YA players would gain 30%X and any senior players 10%X. (These figures are a starting point for discussion but are put in to try to address possible abuse)

The logic is that the practice squad are totally focused on the practice games but would associate with the senior squad in theory taking a few snaps in practice. So they would be applying their knowledge of senior team tactics to the friendly game. The YA are more focused on putting into practice a particular skill they have learned or that their coach has told them to work on. They are not focusing on the whole game and whole range of skills. The senior squad would learn very little from friendlies as they already are putting these things into practice on the playing field. Perhaps in the practice squad they can make the odd variance to a move to see how it works out. So they may learn something but not much.

To help further prevent abuse the players on the practice squad cannot participate in senior team games - or, if they do, they come off the practice squad. The senior squad is limited to 55. Possibly the practice squad would need to be limited also.

YA players would get promoted to the practice squad (perhaps for a limit of two seasons). This would also give the option to see how they developed. Contracts would be renewed annually and such players could be cut without penalty.

I offer these ideas as a starting point for discussion .
