Sorry if I have missed something but have had a look at the manual and Jacks guide but didn't find what I was looking for.
Your depth chart for MLB (Min:2/Opt:3): I can physically list 4 x MLB for example, what happens if I do? Does it then randomise who is used despite say 2 being marked as first string? I'm sure I read something about too many players on one of the posts but can't recall what exactly it referred to. Thanks. |

I’ve never had a problem putting more than the maximum into a position, so long as I mark players as first string.

The first listed is the most important starter and will play as MLB in a 3 LB set, like 5-3, the 2nd one is in those formations backup, in 4 LB sets the 2nd starter. The rest, regardless how many listed, will serve as backups.
Backups are used based on your settings regarding fitness setting in game setting page: "At which level of Fitness / Energy you want start to substitute your players?" If you put in here a high number like <90%, the backups are used very often, since the starter will get under that limit very fast. If you set a lower number like <50%, the starter will play much longer. Now comes the tricky part. Your backup will also lose fitness, so same rule aplys for him. If starter(s) and next backup are under the limit, the next backup is used and so on. So, if you play 5-3 and have 4 players on the list as MLB and <90% set it will look like this: MLB1 plays 5-10 plays and falls under 90% MLB2 plays 3-5 plays and is substituted with MLB1 again because he regained some fitness again and is now 92% (or so) MLB1 plays 3-5 plays and falls again under 90% MLB2 plays again and maybe MLB1 also until MLB2 falls under 90% and MLB2 is still under 90%. MLB3 plays a few plays and either MLB1 or MLB2 do come back because they regained fitness. Now the fitness dance is played between MLB1, 2 and 3. Depended on your game and how many plays the defense plays, the MLB4 might get a shot late in the game. A MLB5 usually don't get a shot, except an injury happens. This looks of cause different if you play 2 MLB each play, then the dance is more complicated, since you need more players to play on that position. The check box for first stringer does basically reduce the pool for substituation, which means if you have 4 MLB set and only 2 have the check box set, the engine will play the 2 with the check box and will only take 1 or 2 none-checked-players in case of injury. That's almost the same as if you would put in only 2 MLB in the depth chart, except in case of injury and no other LB in the depth chart the egine would get creative (I think it will pick first from LB pool on the depth chart, if available and if not available selects someone on the roster, so haveing more on the list is a good thing). |
