HAMBURG SEA LIONS Overtime Statement at Hammer Sports Park

This was a League match the experts expected to be close, and in front of 121,837 visitors at Hammer Sports Park, sponsored by Wonder Comics - The greatest heroes are made by Wonder, our HAMBURG SEA LIONS showed exactly why we trust our preparation. Ghosts of Koh Phangan came ready, but we stayed composed, physical, and confident through every quarter and into overtime.

Early on, we had to earn the rhythm. After a slow opening series, our defense created the first major swing when Jürgen Fikar fumbled and Bachana Revishvili recovered it. We took that short field and finished with Bryant Stover finding Ernest Pastorek on an 18-yard touchdown pass, followed by a clean kick from Emir Pouget. That is complementary football: defense creates it, offense finishes it.

Ghosts of Koh Phangan answered with a long drive of their own, Filip Bang completing the touchdown to Alafu Mutegwamso from close range, and later Bang found Danusika Sperry near the goal line for another touchdown. We did not blink. Before halftime, Stover led a strong response, working the ball through Dau Ngige, Ernest Pastorek, and the run game before hitting Pastorek again for an 11-yard touchdown, with Pouget delivering the kick.

The third quarter tested us. Yuki Uchiyama missed from long range, then we moved the ball well, but Ferdi Ludwig fumbled and Norio Nakazawa recovered it for Ghosts of Koh Phangan, returning it deep into our territory. Our defense held firm enough that the drive ended with Uchiyama making a 32-yard field goal. That mattered because we did not let a turnover become a collapse.

In the fourth quarter, we kept believing in our structure. The defense forced a turnover on downs when Ghosts of Koh Phangan went for it on fourth-and-short at our end of the field. Later, with time running low, our offense put together the kind of drive we expect from our group: Tony Krämer, Allen Gallagher, and Zdravko Keller all made tough plays, and Pouget executed the 19-yard field goal cleanly. Regulation ended, and overtime belonged to us.

In overtime, we received the ball and played like the better-prepared team. Stover opened with completions to Ottokar Jäger and Allen Gallagher, Keller ran with authority, and then Stover finished the match with a 12-yard touchdown pass to Gallagher. That was calm, clinical, and exactly the identity we want.

Ghosts of Koh Phangan: A Hard Lesson in a Tight League Match

We came to Hammer Sports Park for a League match that everyone knew would be tight, with 121,837 visitors watching and Wonder Comics - The greatest heroes are made by Wonder sponsoring the gameday. Our Ghosts of Koh Phangan competed with discipline for long stretches, but against HAMBURG SEA LIONS, the details at the end were not good enough.

We responded well after their first touchdown. Filip Bang kept distributing the ball, Ichirou Kagabu moved the chains repeatedly, and Alafu Mutegwamso finished a red-zone drive with a 3-yard touchdown catch, followed by Yuki Uchiyama’s successful kick. In the second quarter, we built another strong drive with fourth-down courage, sharp throws to nao Fujita and Mutegwamso, and Bang completed the touchdown to Danusika Sperry from close range, again followed by a good kick from Uchiyama.

There were mistakes we have to own. Jürgen Fikar’s first-quarter fumble gave HAMBURG SEA LIONS a short field, and they punished it. Later, our defense made a huge play when Ferdi Ludwig fumbled, Norio Nakazawa recovered, and returned it 43 yards. We turned that opportunity into a 32-yard Uchiyama field goal, but we needed more from that field position.

Defensively, we had good moments. Yutaka Irie sacked Bryant Stover in the fourth quarter, Nadim Shaheen and Abdullah Qasem created pressure, and we forced multiple punts. Offensively, Bang, Kagabu, Sebastian Kiesl, nao Fujita, Michael Wyn Jones, and Edgar Kainihewe all helped sustain drives. But we missed a 51-yard field goal earlier, failed on a fourth-and-short attempt late, and did not close the door when the game was still there for us.

HAMBURG SEA LIONS executed late with the 19-yard field goal from Emir Pouget, and in overtime they were precise. Bryant Stover found Ottokar Jäger and Allen Gallagher, Zdravko Keller ran through space, and the final play was Stover to Gallagher for a 12-yard touchdown. That is the kind of finish we have to prevent.
