Fargo Knights Outlast Champ Chompers at The Prison

Under the watchful, taxidermy-scented banner of Joes Taxidermists - You snuff em we stuff em, 112097 visitors packed The Prison for this League match. The experts had sniffed the wind like suspicious meerkats and predicted a possible win for the away team, the Fargo Knights, and that prophecy eventually padded through the grass on heavy paws.
The game opened with the Champ Chompers receiving, but their first drive ended like a confused armadillo at a closed gate: a fourth-down run by Homer Bruns was stopped short, giving Fargo a short field. Mario Armijo soon kicked a 30-yard field goal, the first scoring bite of the day.
Champ Chompers answered with a long, patient march, crawling forward like a crocodile wearing reading glasses. Abdullah Khalil mixed throws to Ken Calloway, Darrel Giles, Blaine Downs, and Todd Comer with runs from Jarvis McGowan. McGowan finished the drive with a short touchdown run, and Fred Harrison added the kick after touchdown.
The second quarter became a turnover swamp. Khalil briefly fumbled on a keeper but recovered it himself, like a raccoon stealing back its own sandwich. Then Jed Boothe of the Fargo Knights struck twice, intercepting Khalil on back-to-back Champ Chompers possessions and returning both picks deep into Chompers territory. Fargo could not turn the first one into a made kick, as Armijo missed from 45 yards, but later Armijo drilled field goals from 46 and 56 yards as the Knights kept pecking away like woodpeckers with clipboards.
Fargo’s special teams also flashed claws. Freddy Marshall ripped off a long punt return in the second quarter, dodging would-be tacklers like a startled gazelle escaping a committee meeting. The Chompers defense had its moments too, with Roy Keegan, Michael Fredericks, Rune De Wit, Adolfo Blanco, and others crashing through gaps like boars in a pantry.
After halftime, Fargo marched with purpose. Virgil Esposito guided the Knights downfield, and Trinidad Mooney turned a 47-yard reception into a touchdown, gliding through the secondary like a heron wearing knight armor. Armijo added the kick after touchdown.
Champ Chompers refused to curl up like a sleepy pangolin. Khalil led a long drive that stretched from late in the third quarter into the fourth, leaning on Todd Comer, Blaine Downs, Darrel Giles, and steady short-yardage work. Jarvis McGowan finished another goal-line touchdown run, and Harrison again made the kick after touchdown.
The decisive Fargo response was a full-grown bison of a drive. Esposito found Trinidad Mooney, Odell Gallegos, Harris Arreola, and Stuart MacBrayne while Freddy Marshall and Rafael Hass kept the ground game snorting forward. Near the goal line, Mooney caught a short touchdown from Esposito, and Armijo added the kick after touchdown.
From there, Fargo managed the clock like an old owl counting mice. The Knights moved the chains late with catches by Stuart MacBrayne and Trinidad Mooney, while Champ Chompers could not create the final wild stampede they needed. The final score was Fargo Knights 23 - Champ Chompers 14.
