Alaskan Fur Trappers Turn Panther Field into a Snow Globe

Panther Field hosted a Supercup match with 139653 visitors, sponsored by Arctic Airlines, which felt appropriate because the ball spent half the evening flying and the kickers looked like they had frequent-flyer miles. The experts had predicted a possible win for the away team, and the Alaskan Fur Trappers apparently read the brochure.
The Alaskan Fur Trappers opened the scoring action with Wilson Lightfoot drilling a 45-yard field goal after Donn Stone calmly moved the offense with Carlos Kong and King Wiseman doing their best impression of reliable furniture. The Panthers replied through William Rock, who hit a 33-yard field goal after Adolfo Ward marched the home side deep before Jon Chapin arrived with a sack like an unwanted tax audit.
Late in the opening quarter, Stone found Errol Best for an 8-yard touchdown, and Lightfoot added the PAT. That drive had the Fur Trappers passing the ball around like they were trying to include everyone in a group project, except this group project actually worked.
In the second quarter, Rock added another field goal from 34 yards, then Ward connected with Dee House for a 14-yard touchdown, with the PAT good. Lightfoot later answered with a 43-yard field goal before halftime, because apparently both kickers had decided the uprights were just two very judgmental coat racks.
The third quarter belonged to Lightfoot’s boot. He made field goals from 24 and 40 yards, while the Alaskan Fur Trappers leaned on steady passing from Stone and short, stubborn gains from Joel Vernon and Lance Higgs. The Panthers defense had moments, especially Erasmo Coughlin living in the backfield like he forgot to pay rent at home, but the Fur Trappers kept finding just enough room.
The fourth quarter got properly dramatic. Buck Thatcher powered in a 16-yard touchdown for the Panthers, and Rock added the PAT. Then Joel Vernon’s big kickoff return set up the Alaskan Fur Trappers beautifully, and Lance Higgs finished the drive with a 6-yard touchdown run before Lightfoot’s PAT. That was the kind of response that makes a home crowd inhale together and briefly sound like a broken accordion.
The Panthers tried to rescue the night with a long final drive from near their own goal line. Desmond Perreira, Buck Thatcher, Arthur Marques, Cliff Crisp and Ryan Lebron all helped move the chains, but Johnnie Avery kept crashing the party with sacks at the worst possible moments. Rock still nailed a 50-yard field goal near the end, which was impressive, brave, and also slightly cruel to everyone’s blood pressure.
Turnovers were not the headline here: no interceptions and no fumbles lost. The ball security was so clean it could have passed an Arctic Airlines cabin inspection. Instead, the story was field position, clutch kicking, and the Fur Trappers finding answers whenever the Panthers tried to roar.
There were also injuries sprinkled through the game, including scares for Kraisee Khuntilanont, Chase Smoot, Lance Higgs, Sebastian Covey, Feng Choa, Scott Strange, Arthur Marques and Columbus Menard, though several returned like football players are secretly made of duct tape and stubbornness.
Final score: Alaskan Fur Trappers 26 - Panthers 23.
