It can be played like a war game, and in smaller games with 3-4 players, then an aggressive approach can be effective - IF you are able to get the militaristic advances ahead of your opponents.

But more often than not, aggression and subsequent repercussions simply lead to those involved falling behind civs who have taken a more peaceful approach.

- if you have more tokens on the board you move first - that's a big disadvantage for starters
- try to secure 6-7 cities asap, the commodities from decks 5/6/7 are crucial as they are good value sets and there are usually plenty of then floating around in trading.
- don't panic too much about calamities, unless you get a really bad combination you can generally bounce back in one turn (Civil War and Iconoclasm and Heresy being THE worst combo until you are able to afford the advances which lessen their effects)
- if the option is to either build a city or trash someone else's, always build - it's cheaper! - only start wrecking other players' cities if you genuinely have nothing better to use your units for, otherwise it's too expensive.

You now need to consolidate in that game - you need more cities and fewer units on the board. Don't fight with Africa over Sicily, you don't need it - or at least you wouldn't have needed it if you hadn't left the Thrace area open for Asia to grab. Crete has made one of the worst opening set of moves I've ever seen, he will have to try to fight his way out soon so be prepared.

I've lined up my borders and have no need and no intention of heading any further east. But if you decide to encroach I will respond in kind.

And if anyone is wondering what the hell we are are on about, try it for yourselves. The website is called Rol Civ.

Can front office football be played against the computer or does it have to be played online against other people?

How much time do you need to invest per day/week? I played 2 or 3 PC Versions a few years ago and would be interested. But if you tell me I need 1 hour per day on a regular basis I won't start...

Depends on how many games you sign up for and what the turn time limit is set to.

If you play 1 game with a 12 or 24 hour turn time limit it's typically 5-10 minutes once every 2-3 days. Frequency of turns depends on the other players too - how many players and how active they are. Trading rounds have a longer time limit - sometimes you might have to wait a week if other players stay in the market haggling with each other.

There's a game pause function if you need it, and you can set you own personal availability times, to avoid your turn timing out while you are sleeping for example.

Games with 48 or 72 hour turn time limits can last a very long time, often due to player dropouts as they tend to be the more casual players. The more active players tend towards 6/12/24 hour turn time games, and these can progress quite quickly.

Ah, so it is based on rounds and you can set maybe 12 hours per round to finish my actions. So with 4 players it would be every second day I have to log in? Sounds not too time intensive...

Roughly yes. I think you are limited to 48 hour games when you begin though.

The site sends you email updates too, these can remind you when it is your turn - but don't use an important email address for this, as it can get a bit spammy. There was a recent glitch which meant some emails were duplicated roughly 6-10 times!

Cool, thanks for all the tips. As I just started, I joined lots of games. Some are a few players jostling for space, but some not. So I see what you mean in regards to aggression .

I like motorsport, especially Nascar.
From the manager view I have also interest in Formula 1.

Because I recently bought the SEGA Motorsport Manager at Steam with the 50% sale and I miss the multiplayer challenge here, I have registered here once: Grand Prix Racing online.

Been playing Hattrick since Jan 2005 with only a short stop to change nationality last summer. Gonna keep going. I love the pace, I love the community and I just can't quit.

Dugout2015 is also a soccer sim that I've enjoyed for a while. Since 2007 I think.

Aside from that, I don't really play online games (only just started here).

I mainly play Football Manager 2015 with a dude from Hattrick and other games where there's some form of teamwork... mainly.

I'm also completely hooked on the Crusader Kings II series and own pretty much all the DLC. Spent over 1600 hours on Steam on it.
