hmm there are a lot of tough groups in the euros but englands isn't one of them. Russia haven't looked good for ages. could be a test but player for player aren't. Slovakia should be simple really.

I doubt they'll get far though with their defence.
It's looking at England's squad properly. And being honest and realistic. 3 centre defenders, Cahill has ongoing hip injury and is playing through it with injections. Smalling has already picked up a knock and stones who has Been a liability in defence for everton last season. Milner who is just massively over rated and holds the team back. Not one other Liverpool player has deserved a spot and been basically poor last season. No wide players so we can't use 4231 and 442 diamond and 433 don't work. Pre tournament passing has been pathetic and Wayne Rooney who has not only been poor last season but has never done or achieved anything at a finals trophy and clearly wants to pay as a striker and nowhere else

I don't doubt England are not in great shape. but even the players who aren't in form are prem standard players. Wales who most think are Englands biggest rivals in that group have no-where near the depth. to the point they would risk taking an average prem midfielder joe ledley only a month after breaking his leg.

By my workings out if England top their group and other things go the way I think they will then we will be facing Portugal in the quarters and Belgium in the semis. Portugal may have Ronaldo and Nani but they don't have good enough defence and we smoked them in Sunderland. Belgium however are a very good team and Hazard has come into form at the right time with De Bruyne and Lukaku I believe - if this comes to fruition - that the winner of a potential Belgium England semi will win the whole thing. Unfortunately Germany don't have a solid, consistent striker and that means I cannot see them as a contestant even though they have won a world cup with a barely functioning Mario Gomez, I just don't think they will be able to do it. France and England are in the same situation with a young squad full of great young attacking strengths and a pretty poor defence. Despite this if France Vs England is a fixture then I would heavily favour a high scoring game with Rashford and Vardy scoring most of the goals on counter attacks due to the lack of pace from the aging full backs, Evra and Sagna and the Rami who is prone to very big mistakes.

The question that England may not make it out of the group is preposterous. Baring in mind that Wales are a two man team in Ramsey and Bale, Slovakia are ok with no real stand out players and Russia are a good team but their defence is very slow and Vardy coming off the bench at around the 60th minute with a slow, tiring defence will probably turn a 1-0 lead at halftime to a 3 or 4 nil.

Overall here are my favourites:
1. Belgium
2. England
3. France
4.Spain
5. Germany
6. Italy
7. Portugal
8. Switzerland

Also i'm supporting Northern Ireland as I was born in Belfast so there is no bias to England...or is there?

I think you have been drinking plenty of Irelands finest black stuff to put England ahead of all teams bar Belgium in your rankings!!!!!

Every tournament there is a surge of optimism from English fans....based on absolutely nothing. Glorious failure at best - ridiculous failure more likely.

If this England team were in the Premier League, theyd be mid table at best.....

Prove me wrong England.......go on, I dare you!

I think there are only 3 top teams, and then there's a bulk of teams that could make it very far but could get knocked out in the group stage as well. I don't know why so many ppl are hyping France and England like they are though.

In my eyes, the top teams this year are Belgium, Germany and Spain.
Then there is the bulk(in no particualar order) of France, Switzerland, Wales, England, Russia, Poland, Turkey, Croatia, Italy, Sweden, Austria and Portugal

Overall, I think this EM will be very exciting with lots of close games... And the winner could be any of the teams above.

Belgium is pretty overrated imo, they have a great gk and 2-3 outstanding players, but the others are more or less average.
Spain has a great squad with lots of individual talent but that was the same at the WC, so we will have to wait and see whether they are able to build a real team this time.
England has a decent squad, but they lack real star power. They won't win the title but I also don't see them fail at group stage already.
Germany has world class players at gk, cb and cm, but they will have some problems at rb, lw and forward. I'm pretty sure that Löw will bring up some new tactics, like he did at the WC. (probably Müller as a striker instead of Gomez)
Italy lacks talent at all positions (except gk), but hey, it's Italy, so they will probably win some games by diving, defending and receiving headbutts.
France sucks at defense, it's going to be very exciting to see if their great offensive talent will be able to make up for it.

tl;dr: Germany and Spain are the favourites, France and Italy are also possible winners, Belgium and England are my underdogs.

Mid table with 2 of the top 3 scorers in the league? You have to remember its about depth and France have no centre back/full back depth, Spain and Germany have striker depth issues, etc. This England team has depth, 3 high prem league CBs plus Dier, good full backs, best Gk in the prem over the past 5 seasons, people are booing off Wilshere when he has played most of 2 friendlies and proved he can play in this team, Alli is one of the best young players, wingers are so so but England don't really have an aerial threat so that dosent matter and we have two of the best prem strikers this season, and a youngster who simply ripped Kosc to pieces- hard to say for an Arsenal fan But I agree all the home nations - bar Northern Ireland will be disappointed. I say that as most of my friends are looking at the rugby tour to SA instead as Paddy Jackson is starting at 10

Don't call him the head because I cannot see there is something like a brain involved in his actions
