Once again it's time for the invitational Bear Bryant Cup and the field has now been set. Some of RZA's greatest programs will vie for the coveted houndstooth derby in what promises to be an epic tournament.

The fifth chapter in the series features some old familiar faces as well as some new entries. The robust Claymore 1.1 lineup includes returning competitors: Alabama Pachyderms, Oban Bay Broncos, North Carolina Sabres, Olivos Borrachos and Rockford Titans. Guests from outside Claymore include: Guinness Drinkers United, Cool Runnings and Vienna Jets. Vienna will be the only entry to have previously won the houndstooth.

Previous winners:
Bear Byrant Cup I - Suchdol Miners
Bear Bryant Cup II - Idrosburghi Verona
Bear Bryant Cup III - Vienna Jets
Bear Bryant Cup IV - Bretzfeld Bandits

The grouping for BBC V was done according to ELO ranking and Global ranking.

Group 1
Cool-Runnings
Guinness Drinkers United
Rockford Titans
Vienna Jets

Group 2
Alabama Pachyderms
North Carolina Sabres
Oban Bay Broncos
Olivos Borrachos

Good luck to all the teams and let's have some FUN!

We're looking forward to some great matches. Pleased to have Pete's team be a part of this. Who will come away with that famous houndstooth fedora?

The first round is in the books and it was exciting as expected. The first games featured the match-up of Guinness Drinkers United and the Rockford Titans. The Drinkers had no trouble dispatching the Titans with a dominating ball control performance. The Titans scored an early 4th quarter field goal to stave off the shutout but it was 23-3 Guinness.

The Alabama Pachyderms traveled to McCaig Bowl @ Mile High to face Claymore rivals Oban Bay Broncos in what would end up being a very controversial match. The Broncos first failed to kick an easy chip shot field goal as time expired in the half and then, in the 4th quarter, with 1:17 left to play, opted to kick a 51 yd. field goal instead of going for it on 4th and 4. The sports talk shows will certainly be talking about the calls in this one. The Pachaderms come away with a 20-17 victory in spite of numerous missteps.

North Carolina Sabres traveled to Olivos to face the Borrachos in what turned out to be a battle of the kickers in the first half, Olivos converting 4 and the Sabres 2 for a 12-6 halftime score. But the Borrachos proved too much for the Sabres in the second half and despite a valiant comeback effort, escaped with a 26-20 win.

In the late game, Cool-Runnings traveled to the Aspern Dome to face Bear Bryant Bowl III Champion, Vienna Jets. The Runnings scored first but the high-power Jets offense was too much to handle, racking up 464 yds on the "Cool" defense. The Jets come away with the win, 37-21.

Managed to catch most of this one live...unfortunately. Exciting game, though still feel we should have won that

It was an exciting game, I can't believe we won. Our games always seem to come down to the wire.

The second round is complete and it featured some incredible competition. In the early game, the confident Guinness Drinkers United traveled to the Frozen Tundra to take on the Cool-Runnings. ELO predictions had the Drinkers winning safely but it was not meant to be. The electrified home crowd cheered as their team poured it on with the passing game. 34 of 50 for over 300 yds as the Runnings pull of the upset, winning by 11, 34-23.

In the 6pm games, Alabama Pachyderms traveled to Genesis Stadium to take on the North Carolina Sabres. It was a dominating performance by the Pach as they rolled up over 500 yds. of offense. The defense was equally impressive, holding the Sabres to one score in the 4th to prevent the shutout. Alabama is now in the driver's seat at 2-0 with a strong 39-7 win.

Oban Bay Broncos were on the road at Olivos Borrachos, trying to avenge their heartbreaking loss to Alabama last week. Most of this game was a tough fought defensive battle with both teams slugging it out until the 3rd quarter before Oban Bay punched it into the end zone to take the lead. Once there, the Broncs would not be denied and they come away with the win, 24-16.

In the late game, it was Rockford Titans traveling to the Aspern Dome to take on the Vienna Jets. This would also be a tough defensive match and a game of the kickers. Rockford scored the lone touchdown and went on to win 16-12.

Some very interesting games coming up next week! Who will advance to the Knockout Round? It's all still up for grabs as every team struggles to find the right combination to succeed.

The last round is in the books and the field is set for the shootout round.

Rockford traveled to the Frozen Tundra this week to take on Cool-Runnings. The Titans had several early opportunities in the 1st quarter but had to settle for field goals. Their 9-0 lead would vanish in the 2nd quarter and Cool-Runnings got heated up. 5 scores (2TDs, 1FG, 2 Pick-6 DTDs) and the Runnings never looked back. 58-40, they reserve their spot in the knockout round.

Alabama travels to Olivos Borrachos and has no problem handing them their second loss in the cup and elimination. 31-10 Oban Bay fell behind early against North Carolina but came back to tie the score at the half and then poured it on in the second half for the win, 41-31

In the final game, Vienna needed a win over Guinness but it was not meant to be for the Jets. Guinness rolled up over 500 yds of offense on their way to a 27-17 win.

Shootout round will be:
16:00 Alabama Pachyderms @ Cool-Runnings
19:00 Oban Bay Broncos @ Guinness Drinkers United
