Hello fellow managers,

To really excel with your team you have to scout your opponent to take advantages of any weaknesses they might have. One part of that is analysing their playbook and formations used in various situations.

This has always seemed very time consuming to me and the play-by-play game view doesn't lend itself to quick analysis at all.

I therefore created an Excel sheet where I could do this quite quickly. I however felt that people without the necessary Excel skills should also be able to do this.

I therefore created a method that is easy to use and very quick. Instructions are below but I also created a how-to guide on YouTube for this who are more visually oriented. This is unlisted so you can only access it via this direct link:

Link to the tool

INSTRUCTIONS:
- Go to a Gamecenter page
- s e l e c t All in the play-by-play window
- s e l e c t all text in that window by clicking in front of first character and then holding the mouse button dragging the cursor down until it gets to the final play
- press Ctrl+C on the keyboard
- Open Excel
- Type Game in field A1
- Right-click on field A2 and Paste as Text or Paste without Formating (depends on version of Excel you have)
- Save the sheet
- Go to this page where the tool is located
- Click Run
- In field File Browse (106): browse to sheet you saved above
- Click 'Sheet1$' and OK
- In field File Browse (110): enter file name that you want the output saved as AND s e l e c t Microsoft Excel (*.xlsx) in the drop down tool to the right of it
- Give name to sheet if required (you can leave it as default on Table1)
- Click Run
- On next screen click the xlsx download link
- Open downloaded file and have an easier view of all the plays used
- Apply a filter so you can s e l e c t the QBs of your opponent

NOTE: of course you can also paste a number of game logs behind each other to get a report on multiple games of your opponent.

Let me know if you run into any issues using this tool or any feedback or comments you might have.

Cheers,
Cheesehead

This is amazing. I already have my own method, albeit not as quick or clean, but functional. Does your tool work with Chromebooks and Sheets?

It should do as the tool doesn't use anything locally re Sheets: It has been tested with OpenOffice and that worked. It would also work with csv I think.

15 yards penalty, unsportsmanlike conduct for helmet throwing.

You are on the right way but you are missing some plays

On my first check of a game, you were missing 16 plays

10 x goal to go
4 x interceptions
1 x Fumble lost and 1 x what I have not yet found

That's why my own spreadsheet has tons of if then else clauses which makes the functions nearly unreadable

pure spaghetticode

2 x midfield was the other miss ( no opp or own)

and 1 interception occurred at 1st and goal so that were my 16 plays

3 x interception
9 x goal to go
1 x interception & goal to go
1 x fumble lost
2 x midfield
