Essentially my question is, what is the difference? I know FS is your last man, but what else? Are there any particular skills beyond the obvious ie FS needs more intelligence etc?

Speed. Speed. Speed.
Intel is nice. Good skills good. Exp ok. Agility a plus. |

In real life your SS would normally be the bigger stronger guy who is good at man, since he frequently matches up with RBs and TEs, while the FS does more "basket hanging." In this game there is no man coverage, and Strength is an important aspect of tackling, so I'm not sure there is much difference. Probably FS is still the last line of defense guy, while SS comes up more. That would be my guess.
EDIT: Also Vision and Positioning would be more important for the FS in real life, but I don't know if it is for the game. Last edited on 2016-12-10 20:39:42 by Rock777 |

OK thanks guys. Just wondered if I had to position them in a way so my best SF took up one not the other

Because of the relatively few tackle opportunities SFs get in the game (due imho to most people passing short and to the flanks), it's quite hard to tell what makes a good SF.
Though SS do commonly feature as an extra line of defense in dealing with rush plays that get through the LBs, or to cover a LB who has blitzed. For that reason, for a SS I look for a player who I'd be happy using as a MLB, but not quite good enough to go into my main MLB rotation. So balanced Speed and Strength, good Intelligence, and fairly even Tackling, Positioning and Vision. I lost a good SS to a fairly early retirement last season, and was nervous at the start of this season as I didn't have an ideal player spare for the role this season - however it doesn't appear to have done my defense any harm!!! (#1 pass D, #5 rush D in Elite league) Typically, my starting FS is about equivalent to my 4th/5th best CB with the sort of stats I look for in a CB (Speed, Intelligence, Tackling, Vision). Do you guys find that playing your best back 7 players closer to the LoS is always the best option?
