Here's another ridiculous score. Exploit!

Captain Jack can add another to his "will not play" list. That will teach them a lesson.

Me, too. What is the fun to spend seasons by losing on purpose for a few players, which at the end don't push you to the top anyway.

Well I see players tanking for seasons saving lots of money so its not just the draft picks its the hundreds of millions they save and then reinvest in top young talent. A combination of the two will gave out a strong base for a team which in several years will be ready to compete, this is the tactic I am seeing currently.

Now that's not how I choose to play but that's what the tankers are doing and they will have a very strong team in several seasons. There are two in particular I know of who have used this tactic and right now they have young teams story led to the brim with top young players, give them a few seasons and they may well be pushing for Elite championships.

I know financially I havent a chance against them when it comes to buying players and have watched top drawer players getting hoovered up by them!

As Steve said, it seems they do push, but never pull it off at the end and start tanking again.
For me, you can get the same and more by just good management.

I agree with this if you have the same definition of tanking as I do and there is the problem.

If you are purposely losing against human opponents for draft picks and to go down to the bot leagues I would consider that tanking. However if you bench veterans to give young players experience, so that you are not penalized in future games for having players with less experience, in meaningless games then I do not. MOTY is the same, teams that do not use it first game of the season so that they are not penalized in future games also are not tanking.

Those that believe "not doing everything in your power to win every game" by definition would not agree with some or all of my above statements and believe that it is tanking and so there is a difference of opinion. Some think MOTY or starting younger players is a strategic decision while others do not.

The last difference, and I appear to be in the vast minority, is whether a bot is a tanking team. I believe they are. I have tanked against a bot in the past because of how bad I think they are for the game. I enjoy making that statement by losing to bots as long as it does not affect a human team's playoff or relegation status. Now with the new rules I will have to get creative in losing to bots when I choose to. Start OLs at QB and WR, throw long pass frequently, etc but use a normal PB.

Maybe some people just love to rebuild, I remember when online football game I played where a couple of guys in different league basically played the game simply to try and gather as many 1st round picks as possible and never actually built a team to challenge as they constantly broke it up for next years picks!!

I can't believe I am writing this but I agree with everything that Thomastem said above - his definition of tanking, the use of MOTY and his thoughts on bots.(Have aliens taken over my mind?)

I have posted often in an attempt to have MOTY removed from the game and to have bots strengthened. (I haven't as yet lost purposely, or otherwise, to a bot).

Agreeing with sentiments expressed by others my idea of playing the game is to build my team bit by bit and try to improve it slowly each season. I see no need to go down to the 'bot leagues'. Although I may not be a constant in the Elite league, nor win the CoC or Supercup I am happy enough with my team's overall success and progress. That keeps me playing the game.

Do you give a shit if someone tanks against a bot provided it does not affect any playoff or relegation races for the human players?

I ask because if you do I would like to understand why anyone would even think twice about this. While I understand the different opinions on what tanking is, and respect them so long as the person isn't being a hypocrite, I do not understand caring about this. My care of someone tanking a game that has no affect is about equal to my care of what your brother's girlfriend's hair stylist ate for lunch last Wednesday.

Well whilst I believe bots should not be a walkover the fact is that currently they are.

Losing purposely will in most cases affect draft picks of human teams. The question then becomes is it still acceptable to lose purposely.

On the one hand the purposeful loser will almost certainly get a better draft pick. On the other it could be argued that they were being given a worse draft pick by default if they were matched up against more bots than their opponents.

I would much prefer that bots are strengthened so that we do not even need to address the question in the first place.

There is also a further issue when a team goes bot mid-season. It will have repercussions on those who have played it as a non-bot team and those who then later face it as a bot team. I do not believe that weak bot teams are good for the game.
