Group 1
Erdington Doleys vs Maryland Drivers I said: Doleys by 3 Actual :22-9 Well I did not expect this. I am very much pleased with this win and unlucky Drivers. Still a long way to go but the Doleys get the start they want, but by no means in the manner they would have liked. Drivers made things difficult forcing the Doleys kicker onto the field a lot more than he is used to. Next week Drivers play Academicals in what is potentially a must win. Will they defend well again and kick their offence into the end zone? Morgantown Mad Dogs vs Hebredian Academicals I said: Academicals by 7 Actual: 20-19 What a close result! Correct prediction but this game just shows how close Group A actually is. Mad Dogs prove why I think nobody should underestimate them and with them facing the other Week 1 winners in the Doleys, the spanner could well be in the works with Drivers also easily able to upset the Scottish contingent. Group 2 Jaxinburgh Steelcats vs Munich Saints I said: Saints by 10 Actual: 55-7 Well my score-dar was way out on this one. Quarters 2 and 4 were the killers for the Steelcats. Saints gained double the yardage of their opponents in a deserved result the Steelcats will happily forget. They need to re-focus and gather themselves against The Golden Taints in Week 2, especially with the points difference so much against them already. The Saints will want a repeat of this next week. They were dominant and there isn't much more to say other than GG WP. The Golden Taints vs Memphis Bees I said: Bees by 6 Actual: 31-28 The Golden Taints laying their stake down in this group with a close, but important win over the skilled Bees. They are a side developing very well and one to look out for in not only the group but the tournament as a whole. Bees will be disappointed with the result, especially at home and facing the Saints after their decisive win. I fancy them to recover but the Saints won't be a pushover. Group 3 GLADIATORS vs Herrington Hurricanes I said: GLADIATORS by 6 Actual: 37-14 Herrington Hurricanes sweep aside the GLADIATORS with a convincing 23 point win. A strong performance would leave many to think they are easily group favourites but this group I just can't call. Very strong performance and very good result on opening week considering yardage was almost identical. GLADIATORS need to be more clinical with their possession in the coming games and with fellow Week 1 losers .95 Colts, both in a must win game for qualification, they can't afford any mistakes. .95Colts vs Södermanland Samurais I said: Colts by 1!!!!(That's how close) Actual: 27-17 ZiterdoAB was indeed correct, don't trust Becko's, but I just couldn't call this before the game. Samurais were the most clinical again with yardage almost identical and proving that they can easily compete in this competition and why I think they are one of the dark horses to win this. So are the Colts and they will be disappointed to lose. Rue the missed field goal and fumble potentially but more than able to gather themselves together and recover. Good game to watch on matchticker! Group 4 Adventurers vs Comagena Lions I said: Adventurers by 10 Actual: 52-7 Well...two wins in two days for the group favourites over the Lions and I don't think any more can be said. They dominated the ball on the ground and in the air, with the score just getting progressively worse for the Lions. A strong start to the competition for the Adventurers and one they will very much like to advance next week. More of the same would leave them smiling. The Lions will be bitterly disappointed in this result. They just didn't seem to get a rhythm at all and were punished almost every possession. They need to re-group fast in their must win game against n00bs on drugs. Normally a strong side and I have confidence in a good match next week between themselves and n00bs. Dortmund Griffins vs n00bs on drugs I said: Griffins by 14 Actual: 58-17 A derby to forget for the n00bs. Beaten all over the park and unable to stop the rampant Griffins. Let's hope the wounds aren't too deep from this loss and they can prepare for the Lions. Griffins flexed their muscles and it showed. A good opening performance from them heading into the game I am looking forward to in this group, Griffins vs Adventurers. Like I said about their fellow Germans, all there is to say is GG WP. ROUNDUP Well an interesting opening week which has led to a lot of tight games on the horizon, with a couple of must wins and a couple of the bigger clashes happening. We see Groups A and C looking very tight amongst all four teams, Group B seeing the Taints nudge ahead of their fellow Americans and leave an interesting tie for the Bees in week 2. Group D had two big wins with those sides squaring off for top spot with a game to go afterwards. Hopefully we do not see any eliminations in week 2 and we can keep everybody going down to the wire in week 3 for an interesting tournament!! High: .95Colts vs Södermanland Samurais - Good show of how good the Samurais actually are and how they cannot be underestimated. Low: Adventurers vs Comagena Lions - Adventurers decimate what is normally a good team, let's hope they can re-group and compete with their rivals. Game of the Week: Morgantown Mad Dogs vs Hebredian Academicals - 1 point separating them and an exciting game to see ticking over. Two strong sides locked horns and they didn't disappoint. |

I'm really proud of my team and i was suprised over the win, it was a close game and the team with the least amout of misstakes won (IMO). My QB really stepped up after a week of injury and prooved why he is the starting QB and was named the s:nd best QB in A.2.2 last season. The two "misstakes" from him was 2 sacks witch didn't result in anything for Colt. Really proud of my Kicker who for the first time this season went 100%.
Next week we take on Hurricanes in the match of first place. Hoppefully we can get another W and be in the front for once. (last two friendly cups we won the first and lost the other two resulting in missing advancement) May the best team win! |

Nice write up!
The Dogs really deserved to win yesterday. Their DB's zoned perfectly with 7 (yep, seven) picks off my QB. But REALLY unfortunately for them, and very, VERY VERY fortunately for me, the Dogs kicker missed 5 Kicks including a 27 and 19 Yarder. If either of those had gone over, then the right result would have prevailed. |

Week 2 is upon is and a slightly earlier review of the games coming up. Week 1 left for some interesting match ups this week and some must wins for both teams. So without further ado here is the week 2 schedule:
Group 1 Maryland Drivers vs Hebridean Academicals Accies with the narrow victory last week will be keen to get the win here, not only to put pressure on the others but if Doleys sneak past the Mad Dogs, it guarantees them qualification with a game to spare. With no points difference to rely on they will be feeling the heat if Drivers go ahead. And if there were a side to push the Accies to the limits like the Mad Dogs did, it is indeed the Drivers. The spoils even in their head-to-head, but with the Drivers on a 4 game (likely 5 come Wednesday) win streak since the Doley's Duel then they may favour themselves to upset the Scottish cohort. Lose and they are almost certainly out, win and they face Mad Dogs with a potentially complex situation for qualification. ELO favours Drivers and so do I. Not by much. Drivers by 3 Erdington Doleys vs Morgantown Mad Dogs Must win for Mad Dogs. Similar to the Drivers, a loss isn't optional, although benefits both parties in the earlier game in this group. Doleys hold the win in the only tie between these two with their current owners but that means nothing. The Dogs have scored big in their last two wins, with the only real blemish recently being the narrow loss to the Accies. One win less than the Doleys in Admirals and on their form they should fancy themselves. Doleys on the other hand rushing with confidence, match history full of green. They should be careful though, never back a dog into a corner and especially not a hungry one. Caution away from home. Equally close. Mad Dogs by 1 Group 2 Memphis Bees vs Munich Saints First time ever we see these two duel it out and what an interesting duel it will be. Starting with the Bees, they will be rattled by last week's outcome, especially in their own hive. Their bad run has continued since last week and they need to rectify that this week. An experienced player will have something up his sleeve and he may need it against the talented German! Warming up against bots since his last win against the Steelcats, he has also won a cheeky Munich derby in the mean time. He won't find the rattled Bees as much of a pushover as his bot opponents. I just hope for the Saints, that the win over the Steelcats wasn't a one off. I can't look away from Memphis here. Bees by 10 Jaxinburgh Steelcats vs The Golden Taints A highly disappointing week for the Steelcats and their run-in hasn't been kind to them. Nor will it be until Wednesday. The Taints are good. And Admiral rivals of the Cats, so they will know them well. They will need to dig deep, especially as Taints are really flexing their muscles this season. Taints on the other hand will be looking to hopefully qualify tonight if results go their way. They will feel confident with their league form and Supercup domination toppled with the valued scalp of the Bees. Steelcats prove me wrong. Taints by 21 Group 3 GLADIATORS vs .95 Colts I shall hereby dub this the "Game of Recovery". One of the two mouth watering ties in this group. Both sorely disappointed to lose last week and in a seemingly must win situation with all eyes in Sweden as soon as the final play ends. The winners hoping their week 3 opponents also lose to give themselves full control of their own destiny. Points difference will play a massive part on both coach and QB's minds going into this tie and I am sure both would have loved nothing more than to run out second of these two matches. Only option is win. Everything points towards the Italians winning and except for form, Colts only blemish being the Samurais, so I back them. .95 Colts by 3 Herrington Hurricanes vs Södermanland Samurais I shall hereby dub this the "Game of Pressure". Second of the tastiest group so far. Both winners looking to put one foot firmly into the last round. Knowing the pressure constraints of loss with their week 3 opponents having already played out their clash could play on the minds of the team who faces them yet, especially if falling behind. One previous victory in this competition and a near 10% rating advantage should put Hurricanes ahead all day long, but the Swedish House Mafia don't care for stats, they just play the game. As we saw last week. Form slightly against the hurricanes but knowing them it won't affect their play, I may be burnt twice for not favouring the Samurais, but ZiterdoAB would love that more than anyone I think as it means his team get the win. Hurricanes by 10 Group 4 Adventurers vs Dortmund Griffins Both sides comfortable winners last week and looking to put one foot in the playoff games. One eye will be on the score too, in case something doesn't go to plan next week for the winners of this match. Form seems to be even for these sides, both only losing out to very worthy opponents. First time clashing for these two and it should be high scoring if anything that happened last week is to go by! Close tie but ultimately I have to side with the away team here, due to similarity in form but with a more difficult fixtrure list. Adventurers by 10 Comagena Lions vs n00bs on drugs Both sorely disappointed to have started the way they did and with a tough tie next week for both teams it leaves this our final, but equally interesting must win tie of the week. Comagena will want another chance at Adventurers in this competition if possible and their plight must start here and finish with a victory in Germany again next week. Whereas the n00bs will not have enjoyed their derby perils last week and will want the best possible chance of qualification when hosting the highly talented Adventurers. Having never faced as current teams the clean slate is what both teams need. Neither side having the best of it in terms of form, I will side with rating, however an upset is easily possible. Lions by 7 A close affair last week and the possibility of some sides bowing out this is destined to be an exciting week in our cup! Close ties expected and managers sweating out for the results they need. Best of Luck to one and all! |

Another exciting week it was indeed! Some very pivotal results having set up some very interesting matchups in the final round, just as I had hoped for. I will take a slightly different approach in this summary and focus a bit more on the key results and groups as a whole.
First up... Group A Here we saw the two winners from week 1 triumph again, leading us to see the eliminations of the Maryland Drivers and Morgantown Mad Dogs, who play next week for the 3rd place consolation. Drivers went down by 20 points in what looked like a strong win for the Academicals, sealing their place in the knockout stages. Mad Dogs however fought another very close battle as I predicted with myself. Only 1 TD in the entire match and sadly for the Mad Dogs it was not in their favour. Very unlucky for both these teams as they will have felt a good chance of progression, but alas it boils down to the Calcutta Cup next week for the decider on the 1st and 2nd spots. Match of the Week: Erdington Doleys vs Hebridean Academicals Similar story here... Group B Similar in terms of outcome with both week 1 winners progressing with a game to spare. Bees scored very well with 28 but it wasn't enough to take on the German powerhouse in this group. Averaging 48 points a game so far they will be one tough cookie for their week 3 opponents the Golden Taints. Taints themselves won comfortably over the late entrants in the SteelCats, who have just seemed to struggle for any momentum in their two cup games. Taints will fancy themselves next week though and with the 3rd place consolation between the Bees and the SteelCats and their place secured, both Saints and Taints will know the Group A final positions, so they will be aware as the game progresses who they will face, so the question becomes, Doleys or Accies? Or are they so confident it doesn't matter? Match of the Week: The Golden Taints vs Munich Saints Now onto the more "undecided half"... Group C Group C saw the exit of the .95 Colts this week as they fell by 20 points to the GLADIATORS without registering in the end zone. They will be sorely disappointed in this but this victory for the Italians leads us to a very entertaining tie against the Samurais in Sweden! Samurais put up yet another awesome display but sadly for them they fell to the Herrington Hurricanes who seal their spot in the next round. Final match for them against the Colts however decides if they can grab 1st position or maybe lose out to one of the two decider teams. But there is no doubt here that my match of the week pick for this group and overall for the week will be a damn fine game... Match of the Week: GLADIATORS vs Södermanland Samurais Group D The only team to seal their place in this group this week is the Adventurers, with another strong performance over the Dortmund Griffins. Definitely the team to fear so far and with good reason having statistically the best offence and defence. The Lions pulled it back this week, dispatching the n00bs by 13, leaving them to face the tall ask of the Adventurers for their chance at a consolation win. Which in turn sets up our other interesting game of the week as Comagena Lions take on Dortmund Griffins in a decider for who is promoted to the playoffs and who bows out in Act 1 of the Rookie Challenge Bowl play. Another I won't want to miss but due to the vast PD difference Adventurers have I see no outcome other than second place for these teams, facing the Hurricanes away as things stand in the next round, so no easy route for either team here. Match of the Week: Comagena Lions vs Dortmund Griffins Six teams already decided, two still to be revealed for our playoffs...Wednesday decides it all so good look to all and let's have some more thrilling results. Coaches in the decider games, how do you think they will go? |
