Great numbers...

Just from my experience (I ran a couple of scrimmages with Medium Pass only) and the interception rate was pretty high. Of course, almost all those are 1st, 2nd or 3rd and 10 yards to go.

Not sure what the interception rate would be on 2nd and 1.

I think most people are still avoiding medium passes, no?

Yeah, its pretty much an insta-pick if I throw medium. Its kind of annoying, because 3rd and 10 my guy is still throwing 2 yard passes, which prevents me from converting on 3rd. So its a choice between run, medium pass (and pick), short pass and failed conversion... Runs do occasionally get 10 yards, and fumbles aren't returned for TDs as much as picks, but my Run Blocking isn't really good enough to just run the ball all game

Feel like I frequently see the other team make a 17 yard play directly after I get a 7 yard sack. But then, I know my team usually makes a 6 yard play on 3rd and 7. So its probably mostly a perception thing. I doubt the big plays are really happening at such a high rate, we just remember them more because its so frustrating when you sack a guy on 2nd down, just to see him get the exact yardage he needs on 3rd.

Isn't the point that the receiver runs to the first down marker...so it's not really by accident that he gets the yardage he needs.

Huh. I see them do that a lot in the NFL and college.

Converted 3rd downs 12 of 27

Also one with more than 20 yards

This is not true I think as I never ever see big yard plays other than ones that are being run for TD. Never ever!

And I have run experiments as well with throwing medium / long = always interception.

I get that the receiver is aiming for the first down line as happens in real life but then I want to see that same mentalility on 3rd and 7 for example but as the stats above show this happens infrequently.

So to me it feels like there is an unfair advantage on throws on downs with 20+ yards to go. This is the reason for creating this thread.

It seems now that I'm not the only one seeing this. I will now go back through my games and see what the conversion rate is I am seeing on these big plays.

Mine don't even on 3rd, most of the time my completions are a few yards short. My WRs are all in the high 40s for INT, so I don't think that's the issue.

How good are the players making the conversions? Is it possible that your opponent's talented players find the right matchup in the right moment?

Well none of my players are making conversions, LOL. But I doubt its a matchup issue. I was in league 2.x last season, so I had a much better team than my opponents for the most part. Still seldom converted on offense. I got most of my points on defense.
