I usually call my opponents plays at a very high rate. Doesn't necessarily mean I stop them, but I was wondering. If I call 3-4-4 and I call that the play will be a pass, do I get any benefit over calling 3-4-4 and expecting the play to be a run? Or is pass/run call strictly just to determine which defensive play is being called? In other words if my opponent passes on 1st down out of the I, are these two things the same, or not?

any _1_ any any any any I-formation 3-3-4 3-4-4 pass 0% 0%

any any any any any any I-formation 3-3-4 3-4-4 rush 0% 0%

Would I derive any benefit from calling the pass vs calling a rush with the same defense? Does it help with things like interceptions?

This "expect pass/rush" is just a helper for the AI. They do not defend better or worse based in this setting.

Hmm...that renders most of my game planning irrelevant, as I was focused on getting that setting correct.

This is something you almost certainly can't answer...but how does it help the AI without improving the defense?

Maybe this is a language issue...It is important to have this setting right. As long as this AI has no idea because of too less sample plays, it has to rely on this setting. Therefore, calling it "not important" is...wrong, somehow. Are we on the same page?

I think so. It does raise more questions about the sim engine, but those can wait.

I think it is basically, just which to the two options on the line (pass or rush) does the AI call. If you have the following:

any any any any any any I-formation 3-3-4 5-3-3 rush 0% 0%

Then the AI will call the 5-3-3 most of the time. So it really ONLY effects which of those two defensive formations get called. So when I have something like:

any any any any any any I-formation 3-3-4 3-4-4 rush 0% 0%

Its really irrelevant since 3-4-4 will be called no matter what.

I think your are wrong.

If a certain situation happens, the engine doesnt know what to expect. There you go with this setting. Once the game goes on, the engine knows what to predict. Unless this prediction is ...clear enough, the settings is not relevant. But if the pass/rush ratio is equal in the situation, the pass/rush settings comes into play again...

I would fire the HC if he called a 3-3-4 defense on a regular basis

Yes. That is what I meant I think. If I have 3-4-4 called for both pass and rush in a situation, then that is always going to be called regardless of what the AI thinks. So basically it takes the AI out of the equation. I generally don't rely much on the AI for my defense. Almost all of my defensive play calls are setup up with both the pass and run being the same. I just wasn't sure if there was any extra benefit for actually calling the pass or the run. So essentially, I could just call everything a run and it would have the same effect.
