I've actually noticed, when watching my game, that occassionally the process seems to freeze and my next u p d a t e from the game can be 4 or 5 plays later. Also I know what Rock is talking about as there have been times when I have been online in the wee hours around 0.00GMT when the game slows down consistantly during the daily update. |

There are several instances responsible for a fast connection.
Browser: double-check a different browser on your device once you feel about bad performance. Local operatin system: try another device at that moment Connection: are other webpages affected as well? Don't compare small sites like RZA to big ones like google, because the big players use several techniques to make their webs faster, like content delivery networks. To compare, use websites of same size and reputation, and same location. Means, if a german website responds slow, don't use a chinese or US page to compare Different subpages on the same websites: if RZA responds slow on the forums, does it respond slow on your players page as well? COmpiling the forum view causes much more database connections than the manual as example. Both are slow? If you are here in your check and answer the "different subpages" question with "Yes, it is all slow"...Pete could help, maybe. |

I was digging into it a little. Based on the statistics the server load is pretty much the same around the clock. However, there is a time with slight less access on the server, between 4 and 9 am. I will move the database backup into this window.
But this does not give any explanation for an overall bad performance. We will see. |

Pete like i said it during the daily update. the site works. But parts of the website become slow to unresponsive. Playbook, trying to view game stats, and view individual player profile.
But it always been time related 1gmt to 3gmt. which i always assumed it was because of the daily updates which must be done. |

So that is 11:00PM - 4:00AM EST. Not the perfect timeslot for me, but definitely a huge improvement. Hopefully doesn't mess up other folks. Thank you for find a more optimal slot!

But I have tried using both Chrome and Firefox when it is slow, and the performance is the same. Other small websites have no slow down. It was probably during the u p d a t e since my prime time is early hours in UTC. So I am just lucky enough to always be trying to use RZA during its rough part of the day. OS WIN 10, I haven't checked other German sites; I don't know of any. When it happens, EVERY page runs into problems. Sometimes pages will load after 2-5 minute delay. Sometimes pages will simply not load. Like yesterday from ~1:15 - 2:00 UTC the website was completely inaccessible. Tried opening new pages, reloads, forced server reloads (Ctrl-F5); site was completely inaccessible for almost an hour. Last edited on 2017-01-21 15:39:45 by Rock777 |

The most consuming task is the database backup. It takes several hours to complete, from roughly 11:30 pm to 2 am UTC...this is the task I wwas moving to around 6 am UTC now...and beside a few improvements on other maintenance tasks it should solve the issues in the (not late) evening for our US citizens. It causes some trouble for the early birds in Europe...but according to our web stats, this should be the more community friendly approach

Does this change have any influence on the time new players join the team?
