You create kind of an autopilot. It is one thing to say "you shouldnt do this or that", and another thing to prohibit it the hard way.

I'm not ready to add such hard blocks for the moment...

I get that. However, punting on any down other than 4th is illogical and signals one doesn't understand the game of football.

Are you implying that punting on 2nd down isn't how one hits a grand slam for a 3 pointer???

Not necessarily. Punting before 4th down actually used to be a tactic used to flip field position. This was common until the '50s. The QB lining up under center eliminated the deceptive advantage.

TBH, I'm surprised that more teams didn't employ it during the Leatherhead-League.

In the modern era, punting before 4th down typically occurs only in instances when a team faces a 2nd/3rd & 20+ unless you're Bill Belichick.

The only way i can see it's use in this game with a generally standard built team is if you're leading by 7 or less with seconds left on the clock, inside your own 5 or maybe 10 and trust your special teams and defence more than your offence.

That's a good point. Which leads me to think about a 'take a knee' option in the playbook... and then shortly after that thought, I thought, how long before someone would find a way to abuse that option..

Who needs offenses when you got great defenses (and a good punter i guess)
