Up until now we could fire retiring players after the last official game but before the rollover and therefore make room on the roster to promote the 20 year olds from the Youth Academy.

For example, if a team has 68 players and 3 of them retiring it should have enough room to promote 5 players from the YA but without being able to fire the 3 retirees it would only have room for 2 YA players before rollover. Or will it work differently?

I think in that situation you would need to fire one retiring player before the first league game of the season to have 67 players at the end of the season with room to promote 3 YA guys.

Yeah, that is going to be a little rough in general. Any chance of leaving the 21 year olds in the academy for the first week of the new season?

Which means you lose him for the whole season. Plus you need 3 spots for drafting, so you have to be down at 62 players at the start of the season?

I really hope that's not the case, we've always had an entire season to plan for retirements and now we'd have to make the decision in less than a week?

I think it would work a little smoother if you could sign your 21 yo youth guys in the first week (same period as determining if you will need to fire a retiree).

That looks like the case to me, unless i've read it wrong. The other retiring players would go at the end of the season before the draft though.

Good point, 61 even if you plan on promoting 6 guys.

This sounds like a reasonable work around, let's see what Pete says.

I agree this is one thing i do not know why pete added. And does put people in a hard place. Who run full 70 man roster.

And put the teams that use the season to find a vet replacement. the fire the retirey once the replacement is up to speed.

I would be ok with it if the players planing to retire would do so once your team is knock out of the playoffs.

I know for me pete made my decision easy on when to get rid of retiring players when i am not making a run at the elite.
