Hi,

I read on Jack's guide that INT is a "B" skill for kicker. On the other forum posts, there weren't much mention of INT for kicker.

How important is INT for Kicker. And Punter?

Reason is, I have a (Strong Leg) Kicker that I use for both K and P in the depth chart currently. I also have a (Strong Leg) YA guy that i'm training for K/P.

Current K (21yo)
STR 47 (Red)
INT 17
KIC/PUN/VIS - Still training, all around 15.

YA K/P (20yo)
STR 41 (Yellow, max unknown, 43?)
INT 46
KIC/PUN/VIS - Still training

So, in the long run, which guy should I focus training for K and P? Cos if INT id not really important, i'll rather have the stronger guy as the kicker. But he's a DA.

Any thoughts?

I want all of my players to be high INT and maxed out on TC, Morale, PC, Strength, Speed and even Agility. A better player is a better player. I'm not there yet but soon, very soon!

This is only my preference and does not constitute an endorsement of the Dahlonega Voodoo or the Red Zone Action Football League!

I believe I read somewhere that Intelligence helps with the Punter to punt the ball out of bounds inside the 20 instead of punting full force that could end up as a touchback.

For the Kicker I don't know how important intelligence is, but it probably wouldn't hurt to have a little.

Yeah I don't think I would want a kicker who has an intelligence of 5 kicking my balls anyway! Well no kicker for that matter!

I've never considered it important for kickers or punters. I'd be surprised if coffin corner punts were based on intelligence rather than punting. What would the punting skill be used for then...?

Technique?

I could definately buy into the premise that punters have a greater need for intelligence than kickers.

All kickers need to do is hit the ball right. There's a pair of uprights, it's not rocket science.

There's far more to punting. And by far more, I mean it's just not straight forward...

Yeah, but again, if the Punting skill isn't technique, what is it? If distance is Strength, then Technique must by Punting. Otherwise the Punting skill has no use

Intelligence could be for placement/knowing the situation. For instance if you have a guy dumb as a brick and tell him punt it really deep, he's just gonna say, "duh, ok" and hammer it as far as he can, but with someone a little sharper, he might look to the sidelines and say, "If i just try to kick it in bounds, odds are it'll roll for a TB, but if I aim for the sidelines, I might be able to really pin them deep." and strength is how far it'll go and punting could be how consistent they're able to hit it as far as they can

I thought that's what I said, Hunter, but alright.

As kicker, your goal is pretty much always to kick it in a long, straight line. Not much intellect needed for that task to be honest.

For a punter, you explained very well why intellect could/should be more useful.

Justin Tucker should've been a punter?
