So dumb punters don't understand the concept of a coffin corner kick...?

They made it this far in the RZA world so we can assume they understand the concept, but maybe in the rush of the game it slips they're mind often because they don't have the intelligence needed to play with your head and not let the pretty lights distract you from what you're here to do. It's easy to forget the simple stuff when you get caught up in the lights and the crowd

I'm sure Peter did not implement it back or white style, so a Punter with INT 1.0 will hit a coffin corner punt that much and a Punter with INT 50.0 will hit it that much more often than a 1.0 INT guy.
It's not like there is a minimum of INT (like 25 or so) you need to get a single coffin corner punt in a season.
It is even possible that the INT influence is implemented like STR/SPE, means a 0.0 is 75% of max and a 50.0 is 100%.
We don't know and Peter will not get into details.
All we know is, that he said someday in the past that INT does have an influence on the performance.

With the skill "line up" in this game, INT should influence decisionmaking. Makes sense with the positions where it's very important like QB, MLB and OL.

Also makes sense that a P or K needs STR to kick far, P or K to hit the ball well (adding extra length or direction) and then INT to do the smart thing more often.

It could be knowing that it's better to hit it within 10, than go for the corner and it rolls in the endzone for a TB.

I suspect it has an influence just because he is using it as a blanket skill. Really, how much intelligence does it take to "decide" you should kick it in the corner.

There are a lot of skills that Pete has put weird weightings on. It's his game, so we just have to live with them regardless if they make no sense.

99% sure that there was a change made ages ago whereby Intelligence and maybe Vision were changed so that they helped Punters. Before that they were just decoys (ie buffed the P rater but did nothing or next to nothing ingame). Not sure if this was just Punters or if it applied to K as well (coulod still be a decoy for them). Can't recall the announcements confirming impact on Ks.

As to why:

Fluff reason - I guess Intelligence helps them take into account things like Wind, see the pressure or bad snaps etc etc.

Real reason - Pete didn't want punters to only use two skills (strength and punting) so had to adjust some other skills. Intelligence and Vision are I guess the nearest thing to what they could possibly use in real life so that's why they were changed.

I wouldn't read anything into what a Kicker needs in real life. In real life, vision is a critical skill for a Running Back whereas here Positioning is more important.

Re, the original post. Its impossible to establish how much Intelligence matters - way too many variables. Stats are useless unless you find the exact distance of each kick so everyone is just guessing. To get a decent sample size with a fair test isn't viable.

If you are using a dual K/P to develop long-term, I would probably play safe and find a 50 strength player with 30+ Intelligence and sacrifice Strong Leg.

Really I really wish the weightings were more realistic in this game...
