Special Teams could do with fixing. Here is how I reckon we should do it.

1. Punt Returns and Punt Coverage
These are the only part of the game, where you can't choose who plays. Yeah I know Tight Ends often play ST but in real life would NE use Gronk in their Punt Coverage team if he couldn't tackle just because he is their starting TE ? Of course not - that's a crazy idea. Sure it makes sense that when you are punting that you still an O Line as protection. But at least put STT1 and STT2 in the TE positions and gives us some control of the coverage team. I think pretty much everyone playing the game would agree with that. To counter, the return team should be able to field a few STBL so they have some influence on their return team.

2. Add a new ST trait
That gives a significant boost to a player's Special Team skills in all areas apart from Kicking and Punting (that already has Strong Leg).

3. Buff the Influence of the ST Coach
Nobody uses the ST coach. Make it useful - increases the chances of a big play on ST but only if the players are good enough (coverage and blocking players not just returners and gunners). Don't just give a percentage chance of a big play for everyone. ST coach should give a significant boost to the STBL, STT , KR, P, K reagrdless of what position they play. Ensure teams that do have a top-end ST unit have to be taken account of.

4. Bring back the G/ST positons
Yeah I know they exist but make them relevant. Give them a boost over non specialists when playing Special Teams as well as training with the ST coach (so teams who do have the option . Allow them a second position where they are "a little bit OOP". Special Teams specialists do exist in the NFL - often as backup in a main position so this would be realistic.

Pete wants the offense on the field on 4th down for when fake punts will be an option if I remember correctly. This is why we have TEs on the field when we punt.

That being said I do agree with a lot of your proposed changes, I've been training tackling on my TE for about a season now because I was tired of allowing long returns. That's completely unrealistic and forces me to not train catching on my TE because they tackle more often than they catch the ball. Completely illogical and unrealistic if you ask me but it's the most efficient strategy here I believe.

Yeah I know but for a start fake punts aren't here now , no point breaking part of the game to facilitate something that isn't here and has no obvious signs of appearing.

Secondly in a fake punt, teams may well throw to a defensive player who can catch. if teams put their offense out on a punt it would give the game away slightly. Using that logic maybe qbs should do the punting.

Oh I agree with you Mike but replacing TE by STT on punts has been suggested and rejected before so I don't know what would change Pete's mind on this.

I'm not sure if there is a need for STT and STBL specialists but KR and G definitely could do with a little revamping, as does the ST Coach.

I would like to see KR / G traits introduced as it would be an incentive to use such players as specialists rather than rely too heavily on HBs.

I think that there should definitely be at least a minor OOP penalty if not using a ST specialist.

And finally, I think an experience boost similar to that being used for the K / P positions. At the moment their is little incentive to have these positions as specialised, and the experience factor definitely must put managers off specialising as it currently takes around eight times longer to gain experience if you choose to have specific KR / G position players.

I think these measures would give an advantage to managers who choose to specialise but without being vital for success if you choose not to employ the specialist positions.

I can go with 1 2 and 3
4 I do not like. Just because there no real potion of g or kr. It a post on on the depth chart. And most player who play st are backups at other potion.
And are most important are expendable. In real life.

But we could put bigger pc hits on st play of gunners and kr. So it might get owners to play backup and not starters at those postions.
