ELO - slow to adjust?
Haven't been the top team for at least two seasons, yet still have the best ELO be a fair margin. Problem is, every time I lose, my Morale just craters. Steve SD Blitz Last edited on 2017-05-14 03:42:24 by Solana_Steve |

ELo will never truly adjust. as the table using all game. And pete refuse my suggestion limiting the table to 5 to 10 seasons to keep past teams form hurting a rebuilding team.
My only suugestion to you let it ride out as i did. took seveal season before i elo lowered enough. to avoid big hits. as for you it may take 3-to 5 season. I know my morale drop to the 30 or 40s range. there was no point in fighting it. because after morale drop below 80 my team was no longer competive My hint. once you team skill wise is read use the pool and lougue durning the off season to get the morale up. and kick butt the following season. Yes, It seems I need to change the main goal for managers playing this game: Keep ELO low to avoid ELO hits on losing games...
"Games won" became unimportant... Last edited on 2017-05-14 16:23:16 by pete |

Yeah ELO moves way too slow. Really encourages the "buy a quick win, bankrupt the team, and quit playing after 5 seasons" strategy.
Pete is right about one thing, the current ELO algorithm encourages situational tanking (to keep ELO at manageable levels). ELO becomes a huge tradeoff factor because it can really destroy your team if your ELO is higher than your team's strength. |

You are right. it does because of the reasons i stated above. of judgeing for players you had and not for the players and coaches you have. |

It is a bit hard taking a 36% morale kick when playing an upwardly mobile team who's strength is greater than yours, but has not the record to have a comparable ELO score. |

Yeah, that is the main issue. ELO doesn't change fast enough to represent teams in decline or teams on the rise. It really should be able to catch up within half a season, not several seasons. If its always behind by several seasons, its kind of irrelevant. Mainly the issue is that ELO is really for strategy (as Pete said), but this isn't chess. Teams are not individuals, and the performance (and reasonable expectations) of your team relies on a LOT more factors than just strategy. If Bill Belichick suddenly became the coach of the Browns, no one would expect him to go 14-2 in the first season. The team would be ecstatic (moral) with a .500 record. |

One of my duties: keep the managers busy, and keep their enjoyment. So a loss from time to time, just to make Steve happy...within the limits
