So long as it's based on current strength and not 12 seasons ago, I agree with that sentiment too.

It's based on every game a team has ever played, so not only 12 but 25 seasons for those who have been here from the beginning.

Just to make it clear: the shrink by X % would happen at each single seasonrollover...

But if that is applied across the board, it doesn't really change anything right?

It would change things. It would narrow the ELO-range. If we keep the tresholds as they are today, less teams would face the big morale hit...

Not really, those at the top would still see their morale walloped by a shock defeat - it's just that the identity of the teams at the top might fluctuate a little more quickly, and give a better indication of a realistic team ranking. The length of time a team in decline would be affected by relatively large morale hits would decrease, but that would be countered by the fact that the teams replacing them at the top would now have to contend with the morale hits.

The key problem is that morale affects the current squad, and squads change - it's simply unrealistic to have current players' morale hammered because the squad 10+ seasons before did really well - all of whom have now retired!

There it was, the trigger word to leave the discussion...

It never was, in no way is, and never will be my goal to provide a 100% realistic simulation. After all this is a game, and it has to deal with the fact we cannot create a mirrored real world. We have much less mechanism to provide a "kind of" feeling.

...even when said attempts at pseudo 'realism' contribute towards making a better game?

*shrug*

They make a better game for who exactly is the question I ask here? Of all the users how many are affected by this? One could argue that for the vast majority of users this has little effect and in some cases maybe a positive effect or a potential one anyway.

Fair enough, if you genuinely think it makes logical sense that a squad of players should have their morale suffer more heavily because of successes many seasons in the past - and also suffer more than the squad of the current champions, then there's really no point discussing it.

I think the morale hit is good. It makes the moral mechanism a more active component in the game.

I do think that the rating algorithm could be improved to be more reactive. Probably as simple as increasing the K-factor. The only challenging part is convincing Pete that it needs to be more reactive

Okay, my Morale his finally back to 100%. It took 1 training session with Swimming Pool, 5 daily updates, 2 SuperCup playoffs wins and one wildcard playoff win.
