Apologies if this has already been covered off....did a search but couldn't see anything about it.....

Anyway, to keep in line with NFL 'realism', shouldn't touchbacks now start at the 25 yard line, with the OOB penalty resulting in play restarting at the 40?

In case of a Touchback: If kickoff, then 25 yard line. If Punt, then 20 yard line. So I read it in the rules.

Taken from my league game last night :

3:22 Andy Macklin (K) kicks the ball for the field goal, 20 yard field goal is good

3:20 Andy Macklin (K) kicks the ball for 69, results in a touchback, offense is on the field now, 1 and 10 on own 20 more

ALSO

10:25 touchdown more
10:25 Ball spotted on the 15, Bert Gunther (K) kicks the ball for the PAT, PAT is good
10:25 Bert Gunther (K) kicks the ball, the kick goes out of bounds, PENALTY: Kickoff out of bounds, receiving team starts on their 35 yard line, offense is on the field now, 1 and 10 on own 35 more

I think that the touchback beginning at the 25 after a kickoff is not yet an official rule (I'm not 100% sure), last year it was implemented as test and this year has been extended as test too. So maybe that is the reason why it hasn't been changed yet.

that would make sense if it is the case, but seems to be very contradictory to what Kottan has said, who believes its in the rules.

pete, any confirmation about this?

I'm not sure, but it seems temporary:

#American_football" target="_blank">Wikipedia, second line of the section
"This new rule will be re-evaluated after the 2016 NFL season."

And:
NFL owners "extend trial period"

EDIT: My "is not yet an official rule" statement is not correct, I meant that is not a definitive rule, but of course it is an official one, as they are using it...
