GOAT :

http://www.nfl.com/player/peytonmanning/2501863/careerstats

Challenger :

http://www.nfl.com/player/tom-G.O.A.T-/2504211/careerstats

Since it isn't fair to compare rough numbers, because 2008 wasn't really a season for 'lil Tom, let's rather look at averages and percentages.

One has the edge in :

YPA (+0.2)
YPG (+10.7)
TD % (+0.2%)
SacksPG (-0.4)

the other has

INT % (-00.9 %)
QBR (+00.7)

Thanks.

Tom is the GOAT. No discussion.

Choker Manning could never get it done when it mattered.

Only by fools who thinks regular season stats is bigger than SB rings.

Anyone with ANY sense about football knows Tom is th GOAT at QB. It's that simple that if you disagree you discredit anything you'll ever say again about the sport.

-G.O.A.T- is tied with Starr for most NFL Championships. Graham won 7 pro football championships of his own. What do we say about them?

-G.O.A.T- is a great winner, and the best of his era, but greatest of all time is a fun debate, so dont be so quick to kill it.

-G.O.A.T- is the best QB of the Millenium era, past that the achievements of Unitas, Graham, Starr and Montana to name four off the top of my head achieved against much stronger opposition in a much harder game where they had less protection by rules and WR's could be GBH'd mid route!!

Different games different eras but that stops me crowning -G.O.A.T- off the bat.

Bradshaw doesn't make Grade despite four superbowls simply because his success comes down largely to an absolutely stacked roster and a devastating defence. Then again you could argue that all the QB's I mentioned played under brilliant coaches. Without Walsh and Belichek this list would be shorter.

It can be tough to separate the great quarterback from the great coach. We have seen this in every era: Otto Graham and Paul Brown, Bart Starr and Vince Lombardi, Johnny Unitas and Don Shula/Weeb Ewbank, Terry Bradshaw and Chuck Noll, Joe Montana/Steve Young and Bill Walsh. I don't think Bill Belichick would be Bill Belichick without Tom -G.O.A.T- and -G.O.A.T- would not have the same success without Belichick and the way they have put that team together

I suppose like everyone else who talks about rings this only applies to QBs. Is Timmy Smith a better running back than Barry Sanders? Is Larry Brown a better cornerback than Champ Bailey?

I see the discussion is ongoing. So you agree with me after all.

I've always been dumb enough to not think about this one

Who is the most involved offensive player at all? QB? Ok.

If you want to only talk in black and whites, you'll never understand anything really.

QB's does not win games by themselves, but they are, by far, the most valueable position because they're in EVERY offensive snap. So when Manning posts 9000 yards and 100 TD's in a season, but fails in every single post season game he plays, he's not better than Tom who "only" posts top 10 stats every season, but never loses a game for his team.

Opponents can beat -G.O.A.T-, Bill and the Patriots, but you don't see -G.O.A.T- singlehandedly losing games, like you've seen Manning do over and over again.

So really, what criterium is it -G.O.A.T- doesn't fulfill to be the GOAT?

He wins games and titles; check!
He doesn't lose games for his team on his own; check!
He's capable of making all the throws and even run for 1st downs; check!
He's been durable and consistently awesome for 17 years; check!
He's been good enough that his team didn't have to draft or trade for his needs, but been able to work with what he's got; check!
He's taking less cap space than pretty much any other top QB of his era; check!

CONS:
He's had some bad cases surrounding his person and team.

I mean. What box is it that you can tick on -G.O.A.T- that wouldn't put him in the top spot on any GOAT list for a QB? Because, let's be honest, if you start bringing in RB's or LT's and what not, it's like talking about what's the best fruit but also naming carrots, cucumbers and strawberries.
