This post isn't football-related

Hello everybody !

There is one non written rule we are all following here : it is to communicate in english.

We all know there are some native speakers and some non native speakers, so there are a lot of people not as comfortable as others when it comes to speak (or rather write) in english.

My suggestion is to create a thread where one (or many) managers give some "lessons" about mistakes they see in the posts here in the forum. The goal isn't, of course, to say "Manager X made mistake Y" but really to help other so we can all comunicate better

Good idea and I happen to be an English teacher so I can help even though I'm not a native speaker

First lesson, when you're talking about others, don't forget the "s"

good idea, but of course those wanting help should ask for it rather than those giving the help picking things out

Just a thought, and not a general one about this particular suggestion...

Please be aware, some non-natives might feel offended if you fix their English in the public forums. And since the non-native speakers do a favour to the native speakers, I could understand those filing an abuse report in such a case...please keep this in mind.

And, if you fix such a quote in the public, others could use the search function to find the origin, and therefore the manager who made the mistake...please keep this in mind as well.

Disclaimer: If you find errors on my writing, please fix them in the public, I was always enjoying the English lessons here in the forums once I made any mistakes...

Yes Pete, that could be a problem, that's why I proposed a special thread just for that, because I know that when I make mistakes native speakers don't correct me because of politeness. Also I wanted to specify this when I said :

Imo we're actually doing a pretty good job in the forums bridging gaps between our different levels of English - most of the time everyone is doing their best to articulate themselves clearly and to not missunderstand each other "on purpose". my fear in correcting too many grammar, spelling or errors in expression (I just know that sounds wrong, but do I care? is that it might scare non-native speakers off the forum. we already have to live with the fact that our humor sounds dull and our snappy comebacks are not as sharp as we might want to believe

Looks like Buddy's eaten a dictionary and a grammar book for lunch.

Also even some native English speakers do not use correct grammar, have atrocious spelling etc.

And then we have the question of British English vs other variations.

So while I would, in principle, be more than happy to help I can see difficulties...
