There are those who are quite verbal about a QB has to be Very high speed. No they don't. Ant there are those who say that WR's have to be high intel. No they don't. As we said, the sample is too small to take it as the absolute truth. My opinion is that to be a very good QB in Elite or Top Tier 1.1, you do not need great speed, until the other stats are great. Same for WR and INT. When one stat is not good, the others can compensate. Now if you want to have a perfect QB and WR, I guess you need to have all the stats at great level. But that is not something you can have at each position so most of the time that's OK to pass on one of the skills. Also I noticed your QB got sacked 21 times this season which is kind of high considering you played in 1.1. A bit more of speed would have helped on this and sacks can be drives and games killers. Thanks for your expert evaluation of the results of my scheme. Well 11 of those happened in an SC playoff loss and a conf championship loss. So during the season I had only 10. Now offset that by my defenses 160 sacks or so and I came out WAY ahead. But anyway - This thread is about INTERCEPTIONS. Not sacks.. But it has to do with RNG anyway. You know. You have a good random. Better than some others. BY THE WAY: In my opinion your 9 thrown interceptions is kind of high and can end drives and be game killers. You should probably work on that. . Well, there is no need for such a harsh answer. You are obviously not open for the discussion so I let you debating with yourself. Have fun.

I don't know in how far this counts, but on the defensive end of interceptions I've always found it remarkable that in Jack's RZA guide he listed Catching as a C-skill for LB's, SF's and CB's. I don't think I've seen a lot of coaches that have trained catching on their secondary but if anyone has a CB with 20-25+ catching that might give us some insight on that... Also what use does it have for a safety as they don't intercept at all? But when you look at the top interceptors from Elite the only thing they have in common is 40+Intelligence. And then of course the long reach skill plays a part in it as well. So maybe a CB/LB with long reach and high catching and a 40+Intelligence is an interception machine... Edited out my mistake! On a sidenote, when it comes to the Sack/INT discussion, they actually are relevant to eachother in another way. When blitzing sack% increases significantly (well duh...) but INT% also drops significantly when blitzing, so if defenses blitz more they will end up with less interceptions... Not in my data from the last 2 seasons I recorded exact the same 1.9 % intercepted passes, whether the opponent blitzed or not (117700 pass plays) |

Steve, probably isn't much difference but have you played opponents that run the ball a lot more this season?

Interceptions are so rare that it's really hard to come up to hard conclusions.
One of my CBs has 43.4 intelligence and he played 2 Elite seasons for a total of 3 INT. Another of my (retired) CBs had ~31 intelligence and he played 3 Elite seasons for a total of 21 INT. Physicals, non-physicals and experience were very similar. Obviously I'm not going to conclude that it's better to have ~31 intelligence than 43.4 |

Maybe I should look at why my team throws interceptions
16 league games in elite league and I threw 41 interceptions. 33 by my starter and 8 with the backup. Now I know my team isn't an elite team, but over 2 a game was getting ridiculous. Starter has 50 int, 47 strength, 47 pass, 47 vision, and 39 speed. I know not elite standard, but is he so bad that he threw 33 interceptions. I'm guessing my offensive line probably sucks, or my wide receivers and my tight ends are crap, or the rest of the elite league are so much better than me, that I was the worst team in the elite league this season. So who knows, certainly not me. |
