I think a field goal attempted on 1st, 2nd or 3rd down within the last 30 seconds of either half, should end the half.
You are in control of the ball and the clock and if it's not a 4th down you wouldn't leave anytime on the clock making a field goal attempt on a 2nd down. |

I agree, anything that would make time management more realistic gets a from me.

we don't yet have time management. It is on the to do list.
Your statement is true, when the clock is running. But after an incomplete pass or a runner running oob (which I have not yet seen in the engine) the clock stops So, as a defensive minded coach, I don't like the suggestion unless time management is inducted |

However, a coach would only order a FG kick at the last possible moment of the half/final. So how about if the clock runs to 0 the offensive team is allowed a final FG attempt?
We could also introduce a downside, if needs be - that there is also a % chance (known only to Pete) that the offense mismanages the clock and time runs out before they can attempt the FG. |

See, a play can consume around 20 to 30 seconds. This is why we introduced the option "during the last 30 seconds of a quarter". So, with the proposed change in place, I cannot just get rid of the left time on clock. If I add "during the last 10 seconds", managers might miss the opportunity. So, to make it real we would need real clock management and conditional playbookcalls based on "if clock is running/stopped". This makes the playbook even more ... crazy to create.
Just some basic thoughts, no yes or no... |

An incomplete pass can take as little as 8 seconds while a long play can take more than 30 seconds. And I'm not even including injuries stopping the clock randomly.
This is what makes timing a half-time FG impossibe, if you have a play with 30 seconds left it could be your last but you could also have up to 3 more plays and there is no way for the manager to know that in advance. |
