Basically it is the same. 1 Manager has fun, while 31 + 32 + 32 + 4 are watching...I love ideas with more involvement

How about instead of one manager for the whole tournament we have 2 managers per game, one for offense and one for defense?

For a tournament with 8 regions it could work like a Friendly Cup with 2 groups of 4.

For the group stage we could have the conference winners from 1.1, 2.1 and 2.2 manage the 3 games. 6 managers involved per region = 48 managers.

In the semi-final we could have 2 Elite managers from that region do the O and D.
8 more managers involved.

In the final we could have 2 managers elected by the members of the region. New managers, not ones who managed the team in previous rounds or the previous season.

That would mean 60 different managers involved per season and 120 different managers involved every 2 seasons if you put a rule saying that if an Elite team managed the semi-final one year it can't manage it the next.

With one or two games per manager you cannot get a feeling for your team...

I totally see Pete's point. And I see it in another game where there are national teams. Lots of work for the national coach but nobody cares.

This being said, the idea of a "World Cup" or of "Regional All Star Teams" is tempting. It just needs to be that all managers need to participate. Like each team manager needs to nominate his players or something. He can nominate 3, maximum of two can be taken.

I don't know, sounds complicated too.

I think, and I don't want to speak for him, that Pete's issue with this would mostly be the lack of participation. If there are 150 US teams it means a US manager can play with the national team once every 150 seasons on average while a Russian manager would play every 5 seasons...
.

No you're wrong - Russian managers would play every game of every season because according to the media they hack everything on God's Earth

Interesting idea, but so hard to have consistency if we're trying to equal participation. Also, I'm not sure that I would ever elect to coach offensive given the chance.

The fun comes in the involvement of the community to find the best players. If you see this as a one manager job, sure it can be boring for some (even if personally I would still love the idea of following the performance of a French Team). But if the community is organized enough, it can be quite interesting.

Also why are we having the Game of Day feature if everybody thinks watching a game we are not involved is boring?

I never coached a national team in TOG but I did enjoyed following the French performances every season. I am sure not the only one.

What about a "community challenge" where 5-10 or more teams from one country or region play against the same number of teams from another country or region.
For example, Holly, Landru and jack6 (Germany) play vs Meitheisman, Fincyril and Oliveh (France). Let's say Holly beats Meitheisman, Landru beats Fincyril and jack6 loses to Oliveh. That's 2-1 for Germany.
