Question, is the goal for a new team to EVER be able to plaly a top elo team? I will never catch you unless you literally quit, what id like to see is teams that drop in elo there should be a list if im crazy but if im right peopel stay up or quit only the bottom changes when people leave after realizing they will never catch up in the nfl if a team started tomorrow they can be in the playoffs in 2-3 yrs and then on even footing actually expansion franchises do better historically because they get the best new coach and a TAILORED roster to START WITH no half the guys left over from teh old regime that the new coach either cant use or doesnt want see Car Panthers, and Jaguars history |

I think you're misunderstanding the use of ELO here.
It's purely an indication of the success of a team over a period of time. It has no bearing to a team's actual current ability whatsoever. You gain ELO by winning games, you lose ELO by losing games. ELO ratings have no impact on your team's performance. There is no in-game mechanic that takes into account ELO. The rate of ELO change depends on the standard of the opposition. If a 400 ELO team beat mine (1200), then my team would lose a lot, the other team would gain a lot. But it still really would not matter in the grand scheme of things as it would not make my team any worse or his any better. Last edited on 2018-01-05 18:07:30 by JonnyP |

First, I apologize as I'm not sure I could accurately read everything on the board. That said, these numbers seemed to be arbitrary at best.
Looking at the Draft column, not sure why both sides get a +1. This game is like the NFL in that the worst teams get the best draft picks, and it is three rounds. The worst team is likely to get two or three decent players whereas the best team will get only one or maybe two good players. The stadium column also is wrong. Stadiums cap at 144,300, so once you've built your stadium to capacity, that is a wash. The two middle bid list columns I assume refers to the transfer market. I am willing to grant you that more senior teams have an advantage here, but it is not as drastic as this math problem makes it seem. For example, each roster has a cap, so at some point, the senior teams won't be adding any more players. You'll get some free agent players at this point just by default. One final point is that ELO is not really important at all. It is more of a historic measure of a team's past success but has no bearing on future results. If NFL had ELO, the 49ers would have one of the highest ratings whereas Seattle would have one of the worst. So in the first column, your assumption that the better ELO score always beats the worse ELO score is far from accurate. |

Firstly, ELO is not a thing you want high. The more ELO you have the more moral you lose after a game. That is the ONLY function that ELO plays in the game. So gaining ELO should not be a goal.
The main flaw in your logic is that you assume things like Stadium size and Quality of personnel is something that can improve infinitely. That is not the case. Everything has caps. Everyone is limited to a stadium size of 144300. Once you have built a stadium of size 144300, you have closed the gap to 0. Same with players. There is a maximum to player quality, and unknowns mean that you can sometimes find future star players on the transfer market for as little as $5000. Once you have a max stadium, you will earn more money than you veteran opponents (who are spending more on staff, players, and facilities). Thus you will have MORE buying power, and you will have reversed the gap. |
