that Patriots - Colts rivalry wont die, but because of all the wrong reasons, just crazy is there a way to explain what McDaniels just did as anything else than total d***-move? I mean the Colts already started hiring the staff he wanted... New England now claims Kraft and Belichik just caught him while cleaning out his office and voila, he is staying

EDIT: "Andrew Luck's Shoulder Injury Has Doctors Concerned, Could Need Surgery" - with this news coming out just now, could there be a connection? (and what are the Colts doing with Luck, omg)

I can fully understand his way of thinking. But since it is about the Patriots, it has to be about money, and crazy stories of course. Fully understandable

could you elaborate on that way of thinking? so you wanna become a HC, reach an agreement with a team, but then the SB doesnt go as expected, Kraft and Belichik come by the office (thats the official story of the pats), and suddenly you decide to stay OC? why? and with that decision appear totally spineless and narrow any chance of getting hired outside of NE in the future?

If you remember, what McD did in Denver, this is not a surprise.

Now this guy is a red cross on 31 teams in the NFL. All he has done up to now is being great when having -G.O.A.T- and BB at his side.
Big Deal.

His time in Denver and St. Louis was disastrous for these teams

And you have not even mentioned that he already reached an agreement with a couple of Assistance coaches who got blindsided

I did not judge his reasons, I just found I can understand them from a dad and husbands point of view. It seems, he mentioned this during his talks with the Colts. If this is true, he has every right to withdraw from such talks. And yes, he has announced to all other owners: be careful when talking with me...

It seems weird to not make this decision before agreeing to interview and negotiate for the job, start hiring staff... and I'm sorry, but "family" is also the standard plea after such moves, no one wants to appear to be the bad guy.

and from your explanation: "hey I'll talk to you and even agree to terms with you, but that isnt really worth a lot" - really, you say that in an interview for an NFL HC job of all situations? I dont buy that

You don't have to...it is simply fantastic. We are able to judge about other motivation to do or not to do things, and we were not even at the negotiation table. I don't like that...

I did not judge his motivation (I was honestly wondering if there is a connection to another surgery for Luck, because the whole situation doesnt make any sense), but his action of agreeing to a job, hiring assistants, and then going back on it, leaving the colts and the new staff stranded... and that has nothing to do with him being a patriot - if shanahan did that last year, it wouldnt have been cool either.

as for speculation about motivation: the only thing that makes sense is that kraft and belichik told him that bill is retiring after next season, and McD believing that...

and of course money plays a huge role in this: A HC earns so much more money than an OC, which is why coordinators usually are motivated to leave comfortable and successful situations for more control, pressure and scrutiny... which is why I dont think staying OC in NE was about money, I never said that - the HC job for the colts would have been way more lucrative.

and of course we are all just speculating, its just a huge story that doesnt add up quite yet
