Hi folks,

I need your advise or at least your opinion. My team developed to the stage where the player get expensive, and I have to do choices if I want to reach the magical black zero in finances at the end of the season. So I have here three players where I do not know if they are worth it to give them a new contract. If I do not give them a new one i will sell them at the end of the season (or they leave after the season if nobody wants them).

First I have an OL

Marc Harlan

Future salary ca 210 k$
Str 44.3, Spe 28.1, Agi 43, Blo, Pos and Foot 44. I tend to hold him although his strength is not the best.

Second player is a RB

Mathis Carlier

Future salary ca 250 k$

Str 43.2, Spe 42.6, Agi 49.3, Vis, Pos and Car 40. Here I am not sure. I do not use running very much and I also have two more RB at nearly the same level, so cutting him would not be a great loss.

Third player and also the most complicated decision is my QB

Aquila Dau

Future salary ca 630 k$ (+100%)

Physicals are capped (Str 42.8, Spe 38.8, Agi 40.4,) and thats the problem. They are really not great. Pos, Pas and Vis 50 But on the other side I like this guy and he performs quite good (except for the huge amount of sacks). I am looking for a successor for two seasons, but have not found him yet. But i tend to let him go because I would have to cut at least two other players to compensate his salary.

So that are my thoughts. I know that you can not decide for me but I am really looking forward to hear your advises/opinions.

That is very difficult to reply considering we do not see all the skills. Can you give us at least the physicals?

Then it is all about what you aim, what you need to reach (Wild, Div, Conf, Bowl?), and when.

For me, the reasonable target that any team should have is win 1.1 someday. Considering this target, when do you think your team will have to most chances to reach this goal? If you have no chance to do it in the next 3 seasons or if you think you have current back up that will be ready by then, I would make money by selling the guys and save in salaries.

Globaly, I recommand to limit 75% of a roster at 40 in skills and have many of them at this level. The exceptions are maybe QB and MLB in which I like to have skills close to 50 and 48. I also pushed one WR at 48 but is was a mistake.

At FB and TE, as many skills are involeved, I wait to have AGI BLO FTW VIS POS CAT/RUN at 38 before going higher. That gives you very good and cheap players. (However if you abuse the game system and use only FB formations, you may need to go high on FB skills).

At DL/OL, as it is pretty usual to be at 40 on VIS POS TAC/BLO FTW AGI, I push to 42/44 on the absolute starters (especialy on the edge).

For OLB-DB/WR, I built CAT/RUN and FTW before pushing up.

Now my team does not reflect at all this strategy as last season I focused on the main skill of each position in order to maximize my chances of having a good SC run. Full disclosure: I failed!

OK. So considering I am NOT a manager that loves high physicals (as I already said, I did most of my achievments with only 5 players with a 50 on STR or SPE, here we have 3 players that would never have played for my team.

I usualy expect:

- For QB and RB: 40 STR and 47 SPE or a balanced 44/45
- For OL: 45 mini at STR with decend SPE (38-40). If speed is <35, I want 47 mini at STR.

So I would not resign at least OL and RB. For QB, you definitly over pay him. But if you have no other solution at the position, I would keep him until you find a good one. That must be your top priority. Too bad you were not able to get the one I sold to Johnny.

Managing a RZA team is more complex than 3 players, nobody can tell you what to do.....the only thing i can tell you is that i will never buy players like those 3...i would say sell them right now(and others low physicals/high salary if you have) and don't wait the end of the season......you might lose this season but you will be a real winner very soon in the future.... there are plenty of good players on TM you only need money.....

I have a different opinion from Fin here. I agree about not signing the RB, especially if you can get younger and cheaper without much loss in skill. As you said yourself, you don't run much anyway.

At OL, I would likely sign this player. His Strength isn't great, no, but OL is one of the most important positions and unless you have a wealth of talent ready to move right in, you'll get significantly worse without this player. I made this mistake early this season by getting rid of an aging OL player with low strength. His replacement I thought was 1.1 ready due to better physicals and I quickly learned that the most important thing on OL players is really the non-physicals. My replacement couldn't compare in those and my OL is now much poorer because of this.

Remember, OL is a team of players. One weak-link can affect the other 4 on the line! 44 str isn't ideal, no, but isn't bad either. Sign him!

At QB, i'd drop this fool mid-season. Unlike OL, QB is a position that relies on strong physicals. Since they only need 2 non-physicals trained, often times the biggest difference between QB play between team is the physicals. They're easy to train up but it can be hard to find a player with high STR and SPE. I have personally always been in the high speed camp for QBs. QB speed is part of the sack calculation and from what i've read, its a very large part of it. This guy has 38 speed.

From a very quick look of your last 2 competitive matches, vs Monsters and Green machine this guy got sacked 13 times. I would venture to say that his speed is GREATLY holding your team back. Don't overpay for a trash QB. Get someone new ASAP!

I'm not sure about the state of your backups, so my opinion is just for the individual players without regard to anything else

OL : if his TW>40, keep him, otherwise let him go
RB : too slow for RB, let him go
QB : too slow and most likely is a getting-sacked machine, so let him go

Full disclaimer : I've never won 1.1 leagues, so take my opinion with a grain of salt

So thank you all for your thoughts and that you shared them with me. So that will be the last season for the RB and QB in my team. For the OL i still have no final decision. We will see at the end of the season.

I would sell all three. At the higher levels you need the physicals. Also, if you don't run too much just play your FB at RB, it will save you some salary. I try to keep my team down to around 40 players at all times to save salary. It also gives those 40 players more opportunities to gain experience.
