I'm starting this in discussions instead of suggestions because (a) I don't know if it is possible and (b) I don't know if it is even desirable.

I think we all agree the game is most fun when playing other human teams of similar skill. This is getting harder to come by in most leagues due to the lack of human teams.

For example every 1.1 league as at least two Bots. These teams will be replaced next season, but by whom? In most leagues, by teams that are relatively new, and not much of an improvement over the Bot. And, presumably, that team is more likely to quit because they are being thrown into a league there team is not ready to compete.

Pete has already said no to reducing divisions, so I'm not opening that can of worms. But would it be possible/desirable to close down one of the 2.x leagues in the non-Admiral divisions? Today, the total number of human teams in each 2.x division is as follows (and could actually be less because I didn't check to see if these teams are active): Claymore - 12; Dragon - 27; Fire - 10; Galaxy - 13; Monarch - 8; Sea Devil - 12; Thunder - 12. Considering a league can support 32 teams, most of these consolidated 2.x leagues would still have less than half capacity.

Reducing to one 2.x league per division would also mean only two new teams get auto-promotion giving newer teams a little longer to figure this game out before moving up to 1.1, which I think might keep managers around a bit longer.

Technically, I could close a complete league level, as we did a few years ago with level 3. I need the relationship in the regions with "a power of 2" for the inner mechanics of promoting teams.

In my opinion, there are 2 ways of bringing more human into the game, and bringing humans into the game is the only healthy way of solving the situation:

1.) Change the game so more people find it attracting. This is done on a regular base, and during the last seasons I focused on making the entry to the game more clean and less stressful. Still not done, but some major things were fixed.

2.) Spreading the word. It is not possible for me to do professional marketing based on the current fundings. So Spreading the word means: you guys spread the word.

And of course I am open to any discussion making the game more attracting to new users.

To provide a clean picture of the situation, the numbers in () are the bot teams in each league

But everbody can do something to attract new manager.

1. Reshout Pete's news on each page where it is legal.
2. Write welcome messages and offer your help to new managers. Maybe tell him who is a mentor in his language.

The best PR is a good community, but it need to be shown up.

I think it's great that this issue is being adressed.
Not sure what the solution should be.

When I started my biggest hurdle was the Playbook. Understanding the set-up of how it is constructed. I am still no master in play calls.

I wonder if the PB is a barrier for new comers?
Is there any knowledge of how many attempts to use it?

I think its more that in these days most players only want plug n play, (I start today and want to be a top tier team within 1 week) and the time it takes to play a full season.

Off course it can be that some manager quit as doon as they finish the playbook. And maybe they are just lost. I know I was when I started and its just because that Cheesehead from the Amersfort Aligators send me a pm with a link the the rza playguide I knew how to start up my team.

I think a first step in the right direction would be to stop allowing teams to join the most populated leagues until there's a balance between all 2.x leagues. The fact that some 2.x leagues are pretty much full while others are virtually empty isn't good for the game as a whole, it might be good for Admirals 2.1 managers but it's worse for everyone else involved.

I'm always wondering why that's the case with Admiral... Is it Kick off time or because they are "first" when selecting the region (actually I don't remember to be honest)

We do not send them to admirals by default. I guess, the number of human managers is part of the decision, and the kickoff time is a part as well
