RL Week 3 Headlines
Team of the Week: Chicago Cubs
It's not often a 1-1 week will earn Team of the Week honors, but the Chicago Cubs pulled it off by cruising to a 33-10 win over The Beast, and then gave the Dortmund Griffins a scare in 17-16 loss. Jack Bauer's Cubbies still have a giant hill to climb to narrow the talent gap with ulero's HighTowers, but in a watered-down AC, maybe Chicago finds a way into the playoffs.

Game of the Week: Dortmund Griffins 17, Chicago Cubs 16
The aforementioned nailbiter that pushed Jack Bauer into the Headlines' spotlight also was the game of the week. The Cubs came out to play and sent an earlier statement to Alasdaire that this wasn't going to be a cakewalk. After stopping the Griffins on the opening drive, the usually run-heavy offense went to the air and QB Gene Weatherspoon connected with TE Guram Revishvili for a 79yd TD bomb. But special teams play began its bad day by missing the PAT and then giving up a long kick return giving the Griffins a shortened field leading to a TD a few plays later. To be fair, special teams were a problem for both teams. After both offenses took the remainder of the 1st Qtr off, the Cubs managed to get in FG range (albeit a 54 yd attempt) but missed the long FG to start the 2nd Qtr. But the defense turned things around with an INT swinging momentum back to Chicago, and the offense took advantage and took the lead back 13-7. But it wouldn't last. After the Griffins missed a 54 yd FG attempt of their own, the Cubs coughed up a fumble resulting in a Griffin FG. Then special teams made things interesting. The Cubs had a long punt return setting up a 43yd FG with 5 seconds left to go up 16-10, but the Griffins nearly took the kick off to the house until the kicker made the TD saving tackle before the half. Not much occurred in the 3rd Qtr except another missed Griffin FG (35 yd attempt) but the Griffins began a march deep into Chicago territory as the Qtr ended. But the Cubs stiffened and stopped the Griffins on 4 and Goal from the 2yd line at the goalline. But unable to move the ball, the Griffins got it right back in Cubs territory and scored the go ahead TD.

SD talent drought? Competition gap forming
During the past week, the Griffins-Cub match was the only game decided by one score. Beyond that, there was an 11-point game (Philadelphia Phoenix 20, Naprzód Marsz! 9), a 13-point game (Växjö Gladiators AFC 38, Marife-Lacion 25) and two 14-point games (Idrosburghi Verona 30, Bratislava Ravens 16; and Schrodingers Cats 24, Naprzód Marsz! 10). Every other game (24 in all) were decided by three scores or more. It is worth noting that many of the better teams had their bye weeks this past week. Still, it used to be that the top half of the SD could challenge for a conference championship in any other league. Now SD looks about 8 teams deep (the six undefeated teams, Rainbow Warriors, maybe Konjarnik Hightowers and/or Idrosburhi Verona) and a lot of struggles after that. (Go ahead, bring on the hate mail...my team is a little bitter after today)

Other Items of Note
Congratulations to The Beast for recording his first SD 1 win taking down the NY Revolvers, 30-13. The Beast's demonly defense created two bookend pick 6 plays in this one starting the scoring with an 81yd INT TD and ending it with the rare 100yd INT TD by CB Lín Jaslinský to end it. The quarterback play in this one was rough all around with the Revolvers throwing 6 INTs to The Beast's 3 INTs.

And because it was a boring week, we'll add the sad note about Superpippo officially signing off.

Thank you for the great roundup, Doc. You really deserved this win today. What a terrible FG miss in OT.

Just very short : in my view two very interesting matches today :

Philadelphia Phoenix vs. Rainbow Warriors

Easily THE MATCH OF THE DAY between two of the best five teams of the conference. Philly have been travelling to the Seychelles in big hopes to continue the winning streak. But the Warriors are considered one of the best five teams of the conference for good reason. Both should be able to go to the playoffs despote a defeat. But, you never know. Bautzen, Verona and LaSpezia are waiting for the favourites to show a weakness to take "their" spots.

I don't know who to bet on.

Växjö Gladiators AFC vs. Schrodingers Cats
In the AC this could turn out to be one of the deciding matches of the season to make the playoffs. Both teams are 3-2. With a win, the Cats are keeping their chances to win the division. They lose, Gdansk might have an advantage. The Gladiators need a win to keep the wildcard hopes alive while a loss could be fatal.

I don't know either and hope for an exciting match.

Good luck.

One match today was really suspenseful. It went back and forth between the Gladiators and the Cats. The end result doesn’t not show how close it has been. Anyway, congrats to Växjö !

What did Ashlee do to you, Worpex ? The first half looks just brutal.

My team just isn't very good. I've been playing this game for years and I truly still have no idea how to make a playbook. My team will stomp anyone with a lesser overall rating but teams who are similar with a strong playbook like Rainbow Warriors will quickly expose the flaws.

That said, it doesn't help that my new FB still isn't at 100% TC and fumbled twice. And 3 INTs by my young QB don't help either.

If I may say so, it is getting very quiet here in the forum.

Today we have some very interesting matchups :

Match of the week :

Dalton Catamounts 6-0 vs. Dortmund Griffins 5-0
Both without a loss so far. Both in the inner cercle of favourites to go to the conference final. Both ex-Elite. In their two previous encounters Dalton had the upper hand. Will the Homeside advantage pay off for Dortmund this time ? My money is on the team of jagreen but it will not be by a huge margin.

The battle of the AC North

Gdansk Redskins 4-2 vs. Schrodingers Cats 3-3
One of thee two teams will win the division and go to the playoffs. And this is one of those matches where anything could happen. in front of their home crowd the Cats need a win to draw even with the Redskins. I see a real nail biter with a decision in the last minutes or even in overtime.

Until they meet again

Konjarnik HighTowers 4-1 vs. Constanta Sailors 5-0

We can safely assume that both will win their division and both will head to the playoffs. And thee they may meet again. Sailors are clear favourites. But KHT is not an easy team to beat and last time they met, it was as tight as can be with the Sailors winning 23-21.

Old friends and rivals going at it once again :

Munich Runners 6-0 vs. Naprzód Marsz! 2-4

On paper Munich should rule. But, this is the first real test for the French Bavarian team all season while the Polish veteran had one tough match after the other. In their previous 19 league matches Marsz! won 12 times. But the last five encounters went all to the Runners. What will match 20 bring ?

Decision time in the NC East ?

Rainbow Warriors 4-1 vs. La Spezia Sprugoleans 3-3

The Warriors are clear favourite, of course. And if they win they will pretty much seal the division. If I was alexmi this would be my MOTY moment of the season. Now or never. I still see Ashlee coming out of this one as the clear winner though.

Fighting relegation :

The Beast 1-5 vs. Bern Marcupilamis 0-6

This match is a must win for both teams. They already met once, in the Bowl exactly one month ago. The Beast won 30-26. Can they score their second win ? Or will the Swiss leave the field as a winner for the first time in our league ? I believe it will be a tough match.

And then we also have

Devon Warriors vs. Bautzen Greywolves
Th Greywolves will go 5-1. The Warriors are too weakened now after their financial troubles.

Houston Pirates vs. Bratislava Ravens
Ravens go 3-4 against the new bots.

Idrosburghi Verona vs. Ewoks
Also Verona plays a bot team and go 5-1

Kaunas Hurricane vs. Skalica Eagles
It seems the Eagles will score a third win this season and secure their place in the league next season.

Marife-Lacion vs. Littleton Red Devils
The Spanish side will keep their playoff hopes alive and go 4-2

SH Cougars vs. Philadelphia Phoenix
If we listen to Worpex it will be a close match between these two teams from the NC North. I don' t think so. I believe we will see the Phoenix rising back to its glory and winning this with their power offense to go 6-1.

The Chicago Cubs vs. New York Revolvers

I believe the Cubs will win and actually take the lead in the division today. This alone shows the improvement of this team that might be one of the up and coming ones with a bright SeaDevil future.

Wasteland Wolves vs. Paris Rioters
Despite anything broke is telling us; his red and not yellow vested Rioters stay in the game for a possible playoff run with another easy win over our sad bot Wolves.

Have fun everyone !
