They had 20k at the game we went to. The problem is the stadium (where the Chargers & Padres used to play) can hold something like 70K for football. So it's always going to look empty.
The plan is for San Diego State to take over the site and build a new stadium with a 35-40K capacity. I would assume the Fleet would play there, if the AAF is still around. Also talk of an MLS team. Don't think the NFL is coming back to San Diego. Steve SD Blitz |

Hmmmm. You started playing 7.5 years ago.
With the young guy on the pic around 12-14 you started playing at 5-7? Don't think so ... I hope it was a nice game. |

Yeah, it was an exciting game: San Diego 27, Salt Lake 25. SD gave up the lead with 1 minute left and then marched down the field for a last second winning FG.
But perhaps the best moment of the game was during the 2nd quarter break when they honored this retired Marine who lost his leg fighting overseas. I know US foreign policy and the American military is not real popular abroad these days, but San Diego is a big Navy town (hence the name - San Diego Fleet) and to see 20,000 people give this Marine a standing ovation was really moving. The politics and their agenda do not tarnish the dedication of that soldier.

On the Pacific, the United States has two major Navy ports - - Pearl Harbor (Hawaii) and San Diego. So there are a log of people in San Diego that are active duty/retired Navy or Marines (somehow part of the Navy) and a number of bases (for example, the Top Gun Navy flying school used to be in San Diego - - this is the setting for the movie Top Gun with Tom Cruise & Val Kilmer).
