So this is a two part question in regards to scouting and specifically scouting opposition players prior to competitive matches.

1. Does scouting opposition players improve your team performance against the opposition?

2. SHOULD scouting opposition players improve your team performance against the opposition?

I see it as something beneficial as knowing opposing threats in depth can help assist the team in being able to counteract them and that's a big role of the scout IRL.

Just food for thought

Answer 1 is not correct IF the OP means that just the fact that you scout opposition players improves performance of your team. It does not.

If the question is: will I be able to make better decisions about my game plan by scouting individual players then the answer is Yes.

Important distinction so just wanted to clarify

In my opinion scouting players is largely pointless. What difference does it make in terms of game planning if the opposition's WR has 47 speed or 50 speed + track star? What matters most is the formation used and whether the team passed or rushed.

Agree with that. The only position I scout (sometimes) is the other QB's. Sometimes I increase blitzing if they are slow(er)...

I 100% agree

I found very useful in the beginning, when you are starting from scratch, scouting some of the top RZA teams as a whole (at least all their starter players and main backups, more or less 30 players per team) in order to understand how should be a strong team.
I think it is better have an idea of where you should go before starting a travel....
Total cost more or less 75K per team.
Of course anyone has a different idea of how should be his strong team made of...
Anyway a little effort in order to avoid of buying in the TM plenty of exepensive losers... unuseful in the long run.

My mistake, i have missed the PLAYERS part....so
1. No, maybe only the QB for speed to adjust blitzing..
2. Yes, but this is not the case in RZA today....
