To add to what I've written so far, a player will be more likely to accept a contract with a player option than with a team option. He likes the idea of him getting to decide on that final year of his contract more than the team getting to decide. In fact, he would rather have a contract with no option than with a team option.

maybe because it might not clear to readers what you are calling a team option or player option. This is why I like if people do complete suggestions, and only one per discussion. Makes it easier to find grip, to build an opinion.

I would assume the extension included would be at the pay rate of the current contract rather than training value? I like the idea in its most basic form. but i like many suggestions that make contracts/ sponsorship deal more in depth. I just worry for pete having to code the ideas if they are good lol |

Player Option - contracted salary could be slightly lower due to the player holding the power and the "option" having higher value to the player as part of the contract.
Team Option - contracted salary could be slightly higher due to the team holding the power and the "option" having lower value to the player as part of his contract. Younger players would be less likely to want a team option due to not wanting to be tied down or having less power. Older players might prefer to have a player option due to getting one more year out of their career. |

The pay rate would be at the rate decided on, not based on training. The wage could be higher, lower, or the same rate as the original contract. Players in general like player options more than team options, because they like having the power to decide.

You wouldn't be required to use the option on every contract, just the ones you wish to do. That is part of the option, is that there is a choice in using it.
