4 games in!

The Lisbon SeaCrows are fighting to keep their place in next season´s Dragons 1 League! The new promoted portuguese team is 2-2 after 4 games. The expectations were low, and owner Nigel Amatto had said that he had no high hopes for the team this season.

The first game against the favourite frachise “France 2018”, Seacrows had a good start with Half Time advantage 9-3 but in the second half the French team with 3 passing Td´s got the win by 24-16. Seacrows Head Coach Reggie Bowie was happy with the first half of the team.” We had a great first half! We stopped “France 2018” offense and just give away one Field Goal. In the second half the experience was the key factor for the final result. France 2018 is a great team and favourite to win AC South. They come strong and we failed to maintain our pressure in the QB but was a great team effort. We can make good things happen and next game we will get better! I´m sure of that.”

The next game was against Saint John Sixers, another promoted franchise and the End of Q3 was the demonstration of the team´s competitive equality. 17-17 was the score entering the last quarter and just a pick-six by rookie LB Belmiro Ferreira was the turning point of the game. Seacrows got their first, and away, victory by 34-24, with 379 against 373 total yards and 53% vs 47% in time possession. The 19 years old rookie Linebacker Belmiro Ferreira was radiant with the win: “It´s a team game, I was the MVP, but it´s a team game! All of the guys work hard and this is fantastic! First win in the Dragons 1 League! It´s an honor to play with this guys! Yahhh! I love you, mother! This is the game ball and it´s yours! I love you, Mom!”.

The third game was at Arena Altice and the Brazilian franchise “Challengers” were the visitor team. Slight favourites the away team got the score leading by half time with a 14-10 but in the second half the Seacrows defense keep the end zone free of any attempts by the brazilians. 17-0 in the second half for Lisbon Team and the second victory in a row with a 27-14 final score. The Seacrows defence with the new signing CB Aladin Rashid was the key factor in this game: 2 interceptions of a total of 4 give the advantage in second half. Head Coach Reggie Bowie in the press conference said: “We are getting better! The team signed some players in the defence end and they are helping us to be more capable of compete in this great league. Aladin is a great player and we are fortunate to have him with us. In his second game we delivered what we know he can do: interceptions! That helped the offense to get the pace and win this game! Great job! Great team work and our first home game win!”

The next game, again in the Altice Arena, was against the English team and great favourite “British Blu”. The english team smashed the Seacrows dreams with a 27-0 lead at half time, keeping the score rhythm and established the final 44-10 blowout. The British QB got 4 passing Td´s against a poor performance of the Seacrows defence that allowed 471 total yards and 5 td´s. The offense was in a bad day too, getting just 274 total yards with just 73 running yards of their RB/FB core. The WR7 Cristiano Rocha was the best Seacrows player with 91 passing yards, 1 TD in 5 catches, and was headdowned in the press conference: “We know that “Bristish Blu” are a great team and candidates to win our Division, but today we played awfully. The first half was a disaster and the score 27-0 was really bad. We try to be more aggressive in the second half but didn´t keep up their rhythm. They are good but not so good to beat us by that margin. We must keep working and study hard the film game. For last I want to say thanks to all our fans, we are 2-2 and still in the fight!”

the first quarter of the season is over and it's time to draw a little interim conclusion:

After we sold or fired about 30 expensive EL players and replaced them with young, inexpensive talents, the whole expensive coaching staff including our head coach by significantly cheaper coach replaced, there was a lot of unrest in the club. The moral and the TC had collapsed completely, the first games were a total disaster, as you could see in the results easily. After that, the team has stabilized somewhat and it was able to win first victories.

Now, the team is gradually added meaningful, so that we next season - hopefully - could be competitive - but without hassle and without financial rampages - even if in some transfers, the fingers already very itches and twitches; Usually, reason wins.

Yesterday, our management made a real transfer coup: with Rusty Torres perhaps the world's best QB has moved to Germany and will lift the still very young and inexperienced offensive in the future to a new level. Give him some time to settle in with us.

As a result of our strategy change, we are now saving about € 3.5 million per week and look forward to the task of sustainably building up a young team to play in this league again.

sorry for my english, i hope i use the right words.

Yesterday I had a 510 yds game while my opponent achieved only 377 yds... but I have ended the night as the loser after 4 interceptions (yes, there were F-O-U-R). I know that Tilburg Torpedos is a better team than mine but I can not believe my QB threw 4 ints. I am still working to reduce the amount of ints but I am not sure if it is my QB, my OL, my receivers or my playbook (or maybe everything all together) the big issue. A lot of work to do now...

Remember that it may have just been a bad day for your guys so don't rush to change things unless it becomes a trend.

I have a (i think) good veteran QB and a decent O-line (some vets, some young) but still threw 11 interceptions in the 7 regular season games. 5 of them were in week 2 alone (i think i fixed my week 1 and 2 problems but i wont say how here)!

Still too many for my liking but providing i have a winning season i will be happy enough. I'd advise just to keep an eye on things, make some small tweaks if you see something fairly obvious, run some scrimmages and try to decipher the results! good luck dude!

Thanks noodle! I am already studying my games and reading (again) Jack's guide. The intercpetion issue on my team is already a trend. My first season in RZA was awful (considering the amount of interceptions) but I "solved" that issue. But it was on Dragons 2 so that is the "first real season" to evaluate my strength and weakness.
It is a learning season after all so I have a lot to do right now in order to keep my team going on the right track.

We are halfway in this season and it is time to talk about my previous 4 games...

I already shared my impressions about my first 4 games on Dragons 1 before my bye on week 5. I was 2-2 and leading my (all messed up) division. My 5th game was against the favorite team to win the division, the almighty London Lions. Playing home and looking for an extra morale for my team I decided to play MOTY. It was not an easy game but the second half was dominated by my team and we moved 3-2 with an impressive 34-20 win. Things were looking good at that time...

But after that game I had 3 road games on my sight. The first of them was against QUACK ATTACK who was 2-3 at that moment. The "interception streak nightmare" began and with 2 in that game my team suffered its biggest defeat of the season (34-23) despite the similar stats of both teams.

With a 3-3 record we headed for our 7th game playing Tilburg Torpedos (5-2 at that time) at their home. The defeat was expected as we were facing a strong team but it was not our night... I already talked about this game here and I do not even like to remember all those 4 interceptions... and my team went 3-4.

My 8th game was a divisional battle against ljubljna dragons who were 2-5 before the game. I decided to make some tweaks on my depth chart, playbook and game orders. But the result was a weak offense and a poor match from my team. I had no interceptions this time but no TDs either. Only 11 first downs and low record of 171 total yards. We lost by 14-9 and went to a negative record of 3-5 on the season. A game to be forgotten.

My team is still on the battle for AC East as London Lions (4-4) and Ljubljna Dragons (3-5) are not doing a great campaign either. But now I am also looking to escape from the relegation spots. At least we are coming back to home after 3 games but the next opponent is simply the Tampa Bay Bandits (8-0). I expect to make a good game and make things difficult for him.

Week 5 to Week 8

The downfall of the Seacrows!

In week 5 the Lisbon Seacrows visited the italian franchise “Werewolves” and got a blowout loss. 44-6 was the final score with the Italians getting 5 Td´s (4 passing and one rushing) and 5448 yards against just 210 yards by the Portuguese team. The 1of 15 third down conversions is the key factor to analyze the poor performance of the Seacrows. In the press conference the Head Coach Reggie Bowie was assertive: “We play bad, bad football in all sectors. Our defense was bad, our offense was awful and we have to work harder and better. The “Werewolves” are a better team but 44 points is an humiliation for us. They play very well but we didn´t fight like other games”.

In week 6 the franchise “French Fonctionnaires” was in the Altice Arena to play. They were the favorites but at half time the Lisbon Seacrows were up by nine points with a 24-15 score. The 3 passing td´s by QB12 David Barros (MVP for the Seacrows) to WR Rafael Pessanha (60 yards); WR Cristiano Rocha (78 yards) and TE Dino Hecimovic (61 yards) were the demonstration that the team was fighting against the blowout in week 5 and believing in a win against a more powerful team. But in the second half the Seacrows just got a field goal in the last quarter, losing the game by two points (27-29). The young QB David Barros was unhappy with his second half “I lost the rhythm in the second half! They got better and I failed to the team! MVP? I don´t want that. I want to win!”

The Seacrows with 3 loses in a row was in the home of the famous “Underachieving Streamrollers” for week 7 and there were no surprise in the final score 45-9 for the Danish franchise. The only good thing for Seacrows in this game was the 3rd quarter with the defense stopping the Danish offense that didn´t score in that quarter. The half time score was 28-6 and in the final quarter the Streamrollers got 17-3, closing the game with 6 td´s (4 passing and two running). That was the fourth loss in a row and there were comments about Head Coach Reggie Bowie will be fired. With surprise, the journalists in the press room watched the owner Nigel Amatto entering and making a declaration about the team: “We are a new team in this League. The Dragons One Division is a hard and competitive league. We are the underdogs and all the odds are that we are going to be relegated in the final. I am not concerned with the results. I am not concerned with the team. I am not concerned with the head coach and coaching team. We are fighting with the best in this league. We have two wins and that is a big thing for a newcomer team without any preparation for this league. Our football project is to grow our young and talented players and be better in that way. We will get one, two or three players in the transfer market just to help our young core. I believe in this team and we will get another win in this fantastic league!”

The Lisbon Seacrows got the worst result of the season in week 8. An awful loss to “Trnava Saints” with a final score 3-53!!! Just one field goal in the 1st quarter in a wretched performance with only 174 yards!!! The QB12 David Barros was sacked 5 times by the Saints defense and got just a 58% pass completion. The running game was totally absent with just 34 yards. The Slovakian team was just too much for a fragile Seacrows team that gets the fifth loss in a row. Skip Balless, famous sports commentator, was very upset: “Reggie Bowie is the weakest link of the Seacrows. He never got a final in dragons 2 league. He just got 2 division titles. He is a bad coach! He is too young! The team is very young! The owner is young! Too much mistakes and no preparation for Dragons 1 League! They will go down! They will get relegated! Go Cowboys!
