How about your drafting priorities?
My experience tells me, a lot of managers ignore the draft. Lets take a look at my resent draft (Elite League). There I was drafting in the 5th spot, I only sorted (7) players prior to the draft. All 3 of my picks came from those 7 players. Now this could be because I'm sorting the wrong players, but I don't think that's it. Here are the players that I got: 1st Round: Clint Burton Strong Safety: 5-Star talent, 50-Intell, 50-Speed, with Long Reach Trait 2nd Round: Kris Greene Drafted as a WW, now a RB: 5-Star Talent, 50-Speed, 33-Intell, with Ball Manager Trait 3rd Round: Nathanial Elmore FB: 5-Star Talent, 29-Intell, 46-Speed, 44-Strength, with Track Star Trait My 3rd round pick was not the greatest. But the 2nd pick (no way there were 36 players ranked higher then him), and I never expected him to be there, yet he was... How I rank players for an upcoming draft: I put a high priority on Special Traits (probably more then I should). I will avoid all players with Talent less then 3.5 stars, 4.0 or better is what I greatly prefer. I typically want my intell to be above 38 (but will go down to 30 for some positions). I like fast players (and a fast team) so I always look for a minimum speed of 48. Offensive linemen speed is overlooked for strength (no less then 48 strength). All of my OL have 50 strength except 2 (at 49.7 & 49.4). So what do you look for, or avoid? |

For me the age plays an important role also. I do no like those 23 yo guys (except if he is a real monster). I usually scout all players and sort by position. My list is set with the top 1 (or maybe 2) from each position and the younger player has higher priority. I like players with traits but many of them do not deserve high priority on my board (unless he is a "unicorn" with 3 traits). I prefer the ones with high potential for a longer development.

Interesting! Just to be sure you had rated this guys as your Top 7 overall??

Jetto I appreciate your input.
I'll have to see if I've still got my spread sheet from the draft, see why I pushed my #2 so high. You mentioned my 1st pick as a waste to be at SS. With his intelligence he's either a LB or SS. I'm pretty well set at LB, and my SS's are getting old. So SS seems like a perfect fit for my group. I'm guessing you'd use him as a LB. You also said my 2nd pick, was a Bit old to convert him to RB. He's only 22, why you say that? |

Cause you have to basically train him from scratch rather than using his current skill set. That costs time and with him being 22 he would 24/25 when you can really use him as a RB. It is possible but you have to consider the spot on the roster he occupies in the mean time.

for drafting i tend to filter out the older rookies for the the 1st and 2nd pick. i like an average of 80+ for int/ TW with a min of 35 for either. so 50 int and 30 TW doesnt usually work for me.
i draft for what i need pretty much. or what i might need in 1 or 2 seasons thats not already in progress in the YA. the 3rd pick can be an older rookie if my favourites have gone. i also prioritise those with traits but i usually take a 50 str/ 50 spe player over a 1 trait player if all other factors are pretty much even. i rather the certainty of the 50/50. i have to say that i find YA rookies to be better equipped than draft rookies and they play sooner. this may be because i trained YA rookies higher than I am at moment for salary purposes so in a season or two i may switch opinion on this. i tend to filter out punters, kickers and QB's as im not interested in drafting these positions and never have. |
