Because of an unhappy playcall in my last game I did check my playbook and did play around with the 'Check your playbook'-function to identify the selected play and why a different one was not selected.
I checked in my playbook 'New-O-Pass': 4th quarter, 4th down, 1 yard to go, 15 yard to the goalline, 2 points behind, 00:50 on the clock. I got a line basically saying 'play a pass' in the middle of the playbook. I have a line in my playbook for a late field goal try to win the game, but that's with just 00:30 to go (that is the line I have to adjust and likely cost me the game). So I played around with same situation and 00:31 to play, got the 'play a pass', no surprise. I selected 00:30 left to play and got surprisingly also the 'play a pass'-play. I selected 00:29 left to play and got the field goal try. But the field goal try has as rule 00:30 left to play. So either your play-checker is doing something wrong, the communication is wrong or even the gameengine is selecting something wrong. Honestly I doubt the engine is wrong on a second, I guess we would have seen that bug much earlier, but you never know. |

Maybe is it like this?
In the playbook you can set rules for clock <00:30 (less then 30) <00:45 (less then 45) For the playbook purpose the time 00:30 strike is in the <00:45 slot. When you check with "Check your Playbook" tool and you set 00:30 the result should be <00:45 slot as it is... but the label should be something like "Clock (and less than)" and not "Clock (less than)" |

But communication on that part looks a bit odd. Fields like distance to goalline have the same mechanism but do state the '<' in the rule, while the clock does show the time which then is not the valid time, since it is < time. I was really surprised yesterday to find it that way. |

The selectboxes do have this "< xs", so where is the error?

if you set in the "Check your Playbook" tool
"Clock (less than)" = 00:30 you expect to pick the rule in the <00:30 (less than 30) playbook slot instead it will be picked the one in the <00:45 (less than 45) slot |

But if you invert the order it will be the <00:30 play. |

That is a translation problem. The "less than" should not be there. In the checker, you set a certain situation. There is no "less than", you just enter a time. However, imagine the "less than" would not be in the playbook checker anymore, where is the error?

Not sure there is an error or just me as dumb user.
The check on a value, like 00:30, did s e l e c t a line which I did not expect to be selected. The reason for that is that in the playbook line the time says 00:30, but it is interpreted as <00:30. Since i did put in 00:30 I expected to get the 00:30 line, but since it is < 00:30 it seems to be OK that it was not selected. What confused me was the missing < in the playbook line, it is just in the dropbox. I might be the only one. |

You miss the "less than / greater than" in the list of playbook rules?

But if you invert the order it will be the <00:30 play. It is not a matter of rules order. I think the playbook has no errors. Create an empty offensive playbook with two rules based on clock like this <00:30 (less than 30) <00:45 (less than 45) and in this order. It is cleaer to me that the first rule is matched by time 00:01 from time 00:29 And I think the playbook works properly. But Using the the "Check your Playbook" tool and setting "Clock (less than)" = 00:30 you expect to pick the rule in the <00:30 (less than 30) playbook slot instead it will be picked the one in the <00:45 (less than 45) slot maybe the label in the "Check your Playbook" tool should be something like "Clock (and less than)" and not "Clock (less than)" In this case Clock (and less than)=00:30 means you are cheching the rule <00:45 because 00:30 is above <00:30 Last edited on 2019-09-30 14:56:29 by PJRAVENS |
