Hey, I'm wondering if any managers have done a little bit of research on whether a K/P hybrid saves money in the long run, or if it's better to just have a kicker and a punter. Also, is the performance of these K/P hybrids different than designated kickers and punters (and do they suffer from out of position penalties like the rest of the team does)?

Thanks!

Starting from season 3 there is an "Out of position" penalty active on game time. This will result in a quite high loss of abilities if a player is not playing at his position.

There are some exceptions:

1.)
2.) There is no penalty when playing Kickers as Punters and vice versa
3.)

From the manual :

"A player's salary is based on the average of his 2 highest skills from those determining the salary directly."

2 Highest skills average____Wage $
40______________________88,300

If your K/P has KIC 40 and PUN 40,
you'll have to pay about $88300 once.

If your K has KIC 40 and the other skill 35,
and your P has PUN 40 and the other skill 35
you'll have to pay about $57000 twice.

If your K/P has KIC 45 and PUN 45
you'll have to pay about $210000 once

If your K has KIC 45 and the other skill 35,
and your P has PUN 45 and the other skill 35
you'll have to pay about $88000 twice.

Having one K/P means you can have a free spot in your roster.

Its certainly better to have a kicker/punter hybrid. The hard part is training him up to 40 in both skills. Most of us do not have Special Teams coaches, so you only get about 7 skill points a year. Identify the player you want in your YA and start his training early. I like about 46+ strength and 40+ intelligence.

You only train your kicking and punting up to 40?

So do that, since the benfit of having a higher trained K and/or P while paying a lot more money is not that big, if it exists at all.

That's why some do train their K and their P to skill value 45+ and Vision to a value where the average is between 40 and let's say 43. Above that the costs are not OK, from my point of view and for many other also.
The benefit is, you have 2 players with high skill value, so they might kick or punt longer, but what the lower vision value has as consequence is open for debate.

Overall a good special team kicker or punter can win games, but as many stuff here it's also some sort of philosophy.

I have a K/P hybrid at around 40, boosted young in ya to around 30 while under 20.

Yes 40 skill seems to work and it keeps his salary within reason. I would prefer to have higher salaries at other positions.

Okay, interesting. I guess that allows you to train his other skills (like vision) up higher.

The key is, most kickers and punters get trained in specific skill plus vision...

A kicker with 40 kicking/40 vision costs the same as a punter with 40 punting/40 vision, and the same as a K/P hybrid with 40 in all 3 skills...

Plus the hybrid is on the field for more plays, and thus gets experience more quickly, and it leaves you with a free roster spot.

A downside I experienced a few weeks ago is that when your K/P gets injured you get burned twice!
