Just looking through the post-game stats, and I came across a stat low down called:
Offense Playbook Coverage and Defense Playbook Coverage. What do these mean? It doesn't match to what I thought it would be. Also, what happens if I don't have a rule in playbook for a particular down....does the game engine just choose a random formation etc? |

If you do not have a rule in playbook for a particular down.... the game engine just choose a random formation Example Playbook coverage Offense 72 of 82 Means your team played 82 times on offense and 72 times a playbook rule was matched Playbook coverage Defense 70 of 74 Means your team played 74 times on defense and 70 times a playbook rule was matched Last edited on 2020-10-17 19:53:30 by PJRAVENS |

No playbook rules means the engine takes game settings.
If those are not set, means untouched and all is set to random, yes, then a random play is used, otherwise the game setting play is used. But the stat just decided between playbook and non-playbook. So non-playbook means game settings and whats behind that is only visible if you check the settings itselves. |

Thanks Jack6, I have never used Game Settings, always left random settings there, I forgot about it |

I'm going to come in on the end of this. I (clearly) don't pay much attention to the playbook, scheming for opponent, any of that - I just like building a team and seeing what follows (guess I'm more of a GM).
But I have never understood why the playbook sometimes just doesn't work. I have two playbooks, and in both of them my Defense against a Big-I formation on a running play is either 4-3-4 or 5-3-3. And yet in my most recent league game my defense ran out a 3-3-5 against a running play (which is my pass setting), and two of those carries went for a combined 87 yards and two TDs. What gives? Should I make my pass settings against a Big-I match the run settings? What if the passes suddenly go off for big gains? |

If I correctly understood the question...
You have a rule like this on your defensive playbook Q down to-go GL-Distance Score Clock BIG-I 3-3-5 4-3-4 prefer rush blitz LB 0% blitz SF 0% This means you are expecting a rushing play. Counter Pass 0 Rush 1 Now I play a passing play your defense answers 4-3-4 Counter Pass 1 Rush 1 Now I play a passing play your defense answers 4-3-4 Counter Pass 2 Rush 1 In the next play your defense will expect a pass because the engine adapts accordingly Now I start to rush your defense answers 3-3-5 and you are done. To avoid this you have to scout your opponent or create more than one rule like this for example setting different clock times to avoid your defense learns and changes formation. Pay attention that the adaptative engine is also a friend because if my third call had been another passing play your defense would have been correctly a 3-3-5. And keep in mind that basically every quarter the counter starts new, as far as I know.
