Let me say: 10 years long I refused such action. But finally, I had to do so. And I am not happy about it. I was always thinking one could run a forum without the need of a banhammer, or any other harsh actions. I believe in the dream one could solve everything by using words. I failed with that dream, which is the reason this is a sad day for myself.

Yeah I remember you were against it a few years ago when it was discussed, I understand why you say it's a sad day for you but I wanna say congrats on changing your mind. Sometimes circumstances make us see things differently, and that's definitely an improvement.

I agree. I also like to run things without impositions but there are times when some will seek to take advantage of that. Having some form of moderation control is necessary in this day and age.

I don't think you failed anywhere. And I do like that a flagged post can still be read. I do worry that a group of players can gang up on an individual to always flag that person's posts, though. Which, again, I think it is great that the post can still be made visible if a reader desires it |

We will see how it goes, and adapt if in need

I failed with that dream, which is the reason this is a sad day for myself. I think it might be the nature of a text forum. If we were all arguing face to face in a pub, we'd have the same arguments but I believe they'd be resolved a lot faster and jokes would be had, with text there's time to brood over things, and without the benefit of gestures and expressions, things can feel more personal and possibly insulting. It's not your failure Pete. |

Which, again, I think it is great that the post can still be made visible if a reader desires it I believe that if it happens and some posts get hidden without reasons, there will be some other managers voting the opposite way to restore the balance. Also I believe that most people will vote down posts because of its content, not because of the manager. At the end of the day, the solution is pretty smart. It allows the community to regulate itself. |
